Gotham's Dark Knight Stalled! DC Confirms Major Delay for 'The Batman: Part 2'!
"The Batman: Part II" has been delayed again, with its new release date set for February 18, 2028, nearly six years after the first film. The sequel is currently in production, bringing back core cast members and introducing new talent, amidst speculation about new villains like Two-Face.
The highly anticipated superhero sequel, "The Batman: Part II," has once again seen its release date pushed back, now slated for February 18, 2028. This marks another delay for the film, which was originally scheduled for an October 3, 2025 release. The ongoing production and a series of Warner Bros. release date shuffles have contributed to these changes.
Initial delays saw the film moved to October 2, 2026, primarily due to the WGA strike in 2023. Subsequently, it was further postponed to October 1, 2027, to allow writer and director Matt Reeves additional time to refine the script. The latest adjustment adds another four months to the wait, placing its debut on the President's Day long weekend in 2028, a slot that has historically proven fruitful for superhero blockbusters, such as "Black Panther" in 2018.
However, this new timeline means that almost six years will have passed since the original "The Batman" premiered in the spring of 2022. The film is also expected to face competition from "Grandgear," the English-language debut by "Godzilla Minus One's" Takashi Yamazaki, and an unannounced Disney movie.
Several key cast members from the first installment are confirmed to return, including Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/The Penguin. Exciting new additions to the cast include Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, and Charles Dance. While no official announcements have been made regarding their roles, speculation is high, particularly concerning the potential appearance of future Bat-villain Two-Face, Harvey Dent, and his family. The film is currently in production.
The October 1, 2027, slot previously held by "The Batman: Part II" has now been taken by "The Great Beyond," J.J. Abrams' first film since "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" in 2019. This movie, starring Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell, was also delayed from its original November 13 release.
