GAFCONM Appeals for More Hostel Space Amid Rising Student Numbers
The Ghana Armed Forces College of Nursing and Midwifery (GAFCONM) has made an urgent appeal for additional hostel and lecture facilities to address growing accommodation challenges. The request was made by Acting Principal Major Bright Atta Addae at the college located within the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
Major Addae called on the Ghana Armed Forces to support the expansion of infrastructure as the institution struggles to keep pace with increasing student enrollment. Limited accommodation and classroom space have become a pressing issue for the training college.
The appeal came during a matriculation ceremony where 490 new students were officially admitted for the 2025/2026 academic year. The students will pursue Bachelor of Science programmes in Nursing and Midwifery.
The event also marked the opening of a new cafeteria and an office complex aimed at improving campus facilities. Despite these additions, college leaders say further development is necessary to support the expanding student population.
Major Addae emphasized the institution’s important role in training both military and civilian nurses who serve healthcare facilities across the country. He reaffirmed the college’s commitment to equipping students with strong skills, ethical training, and professional competence.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Felix Adom Ashante of the National Defence University urged students to uphold discipline and integrity throughout their studies. He stressed that success in higher education requires dedication, responsibility, and adherence to professional values.
Dr. Ashante also reminded the new students that studying within a military environment demands a high standard of conduct and professionalism. He encouraged them to align with the traditions and ethics of the Ghana Armed Forces as they begin their academic journey.
