Future of Flight: ValueJet Unveils VIKI, Africa's Pioneering AI Concierge!

The African aviation sector is experiencing a transformative shift with ValueJet’s introduction of VIKI, an artificial intelligence–powered digital concierge. This first-of-its-kind innovation in Africa aims to redefine how passengers interact with airline services, providing unprecedented speed, convenience, and efficiency across the continent.
Named to reflect its intelligent assistance, VIKI leverages advanced multilingual AI to interact with passengers via both voice and text commands. By integrating with popular messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram, travelers can manage flight bookings, modify reservations, check in online, receive real-time updates, and resolve queries without visiting the airport or navigating complex portals.
Enhancing Accessibility and Passenger Autonomy
VIKI is not only a convenience tool but also a major step forward in accessibility, particularly for passengers with visual impairments. Through verbal responses to voice prompts, the platform ensures that all travelers, regardless of physical ability, can independently manage their journeys.
Captain Omololu Majekodunmi, Managing Director of ValueJet, emphasized that VIKI represents more than just a technological achievement. It is a strategic effort to create smarter, safer, and seamless travel experiences across Africa. Chief Commercial Officer Trevor Henry added that VIKI empowers passengers with greater autonomy, reducing dependency on traditional customer service channels and minimizing hold times. The result is a smoother, more efficient travel experience, with information and support accessible anytime, anywhere.
Redefining African Aviation Through Innovation
VIKI builds upon ValueJet’s previous internal innovation, TOPS, which focused on staff operations. The public rollout of VIKI now extends this digital evolution directly to customers, enhancing the airline’s commitment to technology-driven, customer-centric solutions.
The launch comes at a time when Nigerian travelers demand speed, convenience, and control over their journeys. Temitope Ajijola, Head of Business Program and IT, highlighted VIKI’s intuitive design, likening it to “conversing with a knowledgeable friend,” guiding passengers from flight selection to payment and boarding pass issuance in minutes.
As African airlines face growing competition, innovations like VIKI are poised to reshape customerexpectations, elevate operational standards, and ensure that Africa’s aviation sector remains responsive, accessible, and globally competitive.
