In what appeared to be a response to online users who were happy that he had been fired at KICC, the former principal secretary who served in in former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration said that he was taking home KSh 75,000 per month.
While breaking down the figures, Nyakera disclosed that he was pocketing KSh 54,000 honorarium per month way much higher than KSh 527 that ordinary Kenyans make on in a day.
Nyakera who revoked contracts with suppliers while he was serving as the chair of the board at Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) added that he was also earning various allowances in addition to the honorarium payment.
He said that he was taking home a sitting allowance KSh 14,000 per meeting, capped at 10 meetings in a year.
On the other hand, he was also accorded an airtime allowance of KSh 7,000 bringing his total pay per month to KSh 75,000.
“For the bloggers excited that I have “lost” something by being fired from the KICC board, allow me to educate you. Most chairmen are there to serve-not to survive, so blog away and make your KSh 527 a day,” he said on X account on Wednesday, April 2.
The new statement by Nyakera comes barely a day after President William Ruto fired him as the chairman of the board of directors of KICC.
The changes, which took place barely eight months since Nyakera joined KICC, saw Samuel Mwangi appointed by the head of state to take over the position for three years effective Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
Nyakera joined KICC as the chairman of the board in 2024 from KEMSA.
When he left KEMSA as the chairman of the board, his position was taken over by former Narok governor Samuel Tunai.
Nyakera was fired from KICC barely a few days after he stated that he would skip Ruto's Mt Kenya tour.
The president began his tour of Central Kenya on Tuesday, April 1, a region that he has skipped in the last few months in his tours across Kenya.

The former PS is reacting angrily to Kenyans on social media who questioned his recent spate of firings at a time reported that Nyakera was dismissed by Uhuru in January 2018, when the president appointed his second term Cabinet.
He claimed that he was sent packing for being an exemplary performer in his work, adding that he did not know that good performance is a bad thing in government.
