Football enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the Africa Legends versus Barcelona Legends friendly match, scheduled to take place this weekend in Abuja. The highly anticipated fixture will bring together twelve former Super Eagles players, including iconic figures like Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Vincent Enyeama, and Nwankwo Kanu, alongside a host of other continental and Barcelona stars. The grand event is set to unfold at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Saturday, October 25, with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. local time.

Among the contingent of Nigerian talents, nine former internationals will proudly represent the Africa Legends team. This star-studded roster includes the illustrious Okocha, formidable goalkeeper Enyeama, prolific striker Kanu, defensive stalwarts Taiye Taiwo and Elderson Echiejile, as well as attacking powerhouses Obafemi Martins, Victor Ikpeba, Julius Aghahowa, and Daniel Amokachi. Interestingly, two other Nigerian stars, Haruna Babangida and Gbenga Okunowo, will be featuring for the Barcelona Legends, having previously graced the famous blaugrana colours. Babangida, a distinguished product of the Barcelona youth system, showcased his skills for Barça B between 1998 and 2004, while Okunowo played for the senior team during the late 1990s.

The Africa Legends squad is further strengthened by a selection of prominent players from across the continent, promising a vibrant display of skill and nostalgia. This includes South Africa’s Mark Fish, Togo’s Emmanuel Adebayor, Senegal’s El Hadji Diouf, Egypt’s Essam El Hadary, and Ivorian great Didier Zokora. Guiding this experienced and flair-filled team will be former Super Eagles forward Samson Siasia, who has been confirmed as the manager.

The Barcelona Legends arrive in Abuja for their second outing of the season, fresh off a 3-2 victory against Monterrey Legends in Mexico. Former Barça defender Albert Ferrer will once again be at the helm, leading a glittering line-up that combines established club icons with new faces making their debut appearances for the Legends squad.

The star-studded Barcelona roster boasts household names such as Gaizka Mendieta, Ludovic Giuly, Javier Saviola, and Nolito. Making their anticipated Barça Legends debut are Alex Song, who joined Barcelona from Arsenal in 2012 and played two seasons at Camp Nou, and Andreu Fontàs, a La Masia graduate who later had a distinguished career with Celta Vigo and Sporting Kansas City before retiring this year. Other notable members of the travelling squad include goalkeepers Vítor Baía and Jesús Angoy, defenders Philippe Christanval and Juan Pablo Sorín, and former midfielder Roger Garcia. Notably, the participation of Austin Okocha’s good friend, Ronaldinho, is yet to be confirmed for the clash.
