FIBA 3x3 World Tour Utsunomiya Opener & Rytas Vilnius vs. Tofas Bursa Match

The Youth Basketball Champions League (YBCL) is a young competition, only three years old, but Rytas Vilnius and Tofas Bursa have already established themselves as strong contenders. In the inaugural year, Tofas hosted and finished second, while Rytas secured bronze. The following year, Rytas claimed the trophy, with Tofas in third place. This year, the two teams are set to meet in a Semi-Final, guaranteeing one of them a spot on the podium.
The YBCL is developing a rivalry between these two clubs. Both teams have a significant number of returning players from the previous year, enhancing their strength and experience. Rytas features Adomas Pocius, Mantas Liutkevicius, Erikas Sirgedas, MVP Ignas Urbonas, and Matas Deniusas, all of whom played in the Final last year. Tofas includes Yucel Cagin Basaran, Alp Doruk Sancakli, Ahmet Berkay Gonul, and Emirhan Serbest.
The YBCL website interviewed Urbonas and Serbest about their experiences playing in a second year and their expectations for the Semi-Final clash. Serbest, a Türkiye U17 international averaging 10.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks, noted that the extra year has strengthened his team's bond. Urbonas, a Lithuanian U17 international averaging 16.0 points, 5.0 assists, and 5.0 rebounds, emphasized that familiarity with the tournament system has benefited Rytas' returning players.
Both teams are known for their intensity and physicality. They display high energy and enthusiasm before and during games. Tofas focuses on defense, emphasizing hard work and hustle on every possession. Serbest highlighted the importance of defense and hustle as a consistent focus for the team. Urbonas explained that Rytas aims for a fast-paced game but can adapt to a more static, positional style if needed. He noted the team's versatility, with players capable of playing multiple positions and switching on defense.
The upcoming Semi-Final presents a significant challenge for both teams. Serbest acknowledged that Tofas must improve to overcome Rytas, emphasizing the need for hustle, focus, and enhanced teamwork. Urbonas described both teams as aggressive and bold, comparing them to wolves. The game is anticipated to be fiercely contested, with Rytas leading in offense at 105 points and 30.5 assists per game, while Tofas excels in defense with 14 steals per game.
In the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Utsunomiya Opener 2025, Amsterdam Rabobank (NED) finished pool play 2-0 on Day 1. They secured a 21-12 victory against Tennoz and a 21-16 win against Vienna. Worthy de Jong led the team with impressive performances. Ub, Toulouse, and Miami also achieved perfect records in the pool phase.
Mitch Hahn of Miami stood out with strong performances, scoring 8 points and 5 rebounds against Utsunomiya and another 8 points against Raudondvaris. The Quarter-Finals lineup includes Ub (SRB) v Raudondvaris Hoptrans (LTU), Amsterdam RABOBANK (NED) v Riffa (BRN), Toulouse (FRA) v Vienna (AUT), and Miami (USA) v Partizan (SRB). The winners will be crowned on Day 2.
