The Ferry Building Marketplace is an essential San Francisco experience. Plenty of out-of-towners have figured this out, but don’t let that stop you—heading to one of its food stalls and restaurants is worth your time, especially during the Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday farmers markets. The winning move is to go for the bay shrimp and egg salad sandwich at Nopa’s seafood counter, Nopa Fish, oysters and beers on the terrace at Hog Island Oyster Co., Filipino-inspired burritos at Señor Sisig, or a classic burger set-up at Gott’s Roadside (and finish it off with soft serve or their cakey cookies at their outpost behind the restaurant). Jamaican patties at Peaches or a bowl of loc lak shaking beef from Lunette are also never a bad idea.

Unrated: This is a restaurant we want to re-visit before rating, or it’s a coffee shop, bar, or dessert shop. We only rate spots where you can eat a full meal.

La Mar is a Peruvian restaurant near the Ferry Building that feels like a waterfront party with ceviche, empanadas, and slow-cooked pork shanks cooked with aji panca.
