Fans Crown Sofia D'Angelo's 'Time' as Top Track of the Week!

Sofia D’Angelo, a prominent pop singer-songwriter, has captivated listeners with her new single, “Time,” which has successfully topped this week’s fan-voted music poll. The poll, published on Billboard last Friday (April 3), saw D’Angelo's latest solo release – her first outside of her group MICHELLE – emerge as the favorite new track of the week. “Time” garnered an overwhelming majority of the votes, securing more than 69% by the poll’s closing time on Sunday, outpacing numerous other new releases.

The week was bustling with new music from several notable artists, including actress Anne Hathaway, Jack White (who also made an appearance as the musical guest on SNL Saturday night), Arlo Park, and floweroflove, among others. Despite the strong competition, D’Angelo’s track resonated most deeply with the audience, affirming her strong presence as a solo artist.

A native New Yorker and seasoned performer, D’Angelo accompanied the release of “Time” with a compelling, nostalgia-driven music video. Filmed at a Bushwick bar, the visual offers a unique glimpse into a future version of the singer-songwriter, who, despite appearing aged, maintains the vibrant spirit of her early 20s. “Every seven years or so, even Grandma needs a good time,” D’Angelo playfully remarks in the clip, which was directed by Steph Rinzler. D’Angelo herself took on the role of executive producer for the video, with Anahita von Andrian-Werburg as producer and Natalie Williams as associate producer.

The lyrics of “Time” reflect on themes of self-reliance and the passage of time, as D’Angelo sings, “Just gotta work with what you got,” and introspectively questions, “At the end of everything/ Will I remember 23?/ If I survive I’ll know/ If time was on my side.” This lyrical depth, combined with the track's pop sensibilities, contributed to its success.

Following behind “Time” in the poll were Anne Hathaway’s “My Mouth Is Lonely for You,” from her upcoming film Mother Mary, which received 16% of the vote, and Jack White’s surprise pre-SNL release, “G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs,” securing 4% of the vote. The final results underscored the impressive fan engagement and the immediate impact of Sofia D’Angelo's new single.
