Electric Pony Power: Ford's 2027 Mustang Mach-E Gets Rugged Trail Model and Beefier Battery!

The 2027 Ford Mustang Mach-E is set to receive significant enhancements, including a new off-road-oriented Trail package and a larger 88-kWh extended-range battery now standard across all models. These updates aim to broaden the Mach-E's appeal, offering more capability and range to consumers.

The new Trail package is designed to provide increased off-road capability without the specialized performance and higher price tag of the Mach-E Rally. This package is exclusively available on the Select AWD trim level, making it a more accessible option for adventurers. Priced at an additional $2,295 on top of the all-wheel-drive option, the Select AWD with the Trail package totals $48,030. This positions it competitively against rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT, which starts at $48,175.

Key features of the Trail package include a 0.4-inch front lift and a 0.6-inch rear lift, achieved through new springs and dampers. It also incorporates the steering rack from the more expensive Mach-E Rally, along with that car’s Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires and distinctive 19-inch turbine wheels finished in gray. Additional amenities in the package comprise a 400-watt inverter providing 120-volt electrical outlets in both the rear passenger and cargo areas, a branded center armrest logo, a blacked-out lower front fascia mirroring the Rally model, and optional body graphics.

Beyond the Trail package, a major update for the 2027 Mach-E lineup is the discontinuation of the 73-kWh standard-range battery. All models will now come equipped with the previously optional 88-kWh extended-range battery as standard. The high-performance Mach-E GT and Rally variants will continue to utilize their larger 91-kWh battery packs. Ford has also introduced a new, more cost-effective front motor for all-wheel-drive models, which maintains the same power output and helps to offset the cost of the larger standard battery. While official range figures for the 2027 lineup are yet to be released, Ford anticipates that the lightest rear-wheel-drive models could achieve a range of up to 320 miles. Ordering for the 2027 Mach-E commences immediately, with deliveries of the first Trail package-equipped vehicles expected in the first quarter of 2027.
