Disney Sequels 'Devil Wears Prada 2' and 'Toy Story 5' Trailers Shatter Viewership Records!

Fans of two iconic franchises, The Devil Wears Prada and Toy Story, have been treated to a momentous couple of days with the release of the first trailers for their highly anticipated sequels, The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Toy Story 5. These teasers have not only unveiled first looks at the upcoming films but have also shattered viewership records for Disney, signaling immense enthusiasm from audiences worldwide.

The teaser for The Devil Wears Prada 2, which offered a glimpse of the return of Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and Andrea 'Andy' Sachs (Anne Hathaway) alongside the iconic Valentino Rockstud red heels, garnered an astounding 185 million views in its first 24 hours. This makes it the second most-viewed trailer of the year, surpassed only by Marvel's superhero flick The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Even more impressively, it stands as the most-watched trailer ever from the Disney-owned 20th Century Studios. Furthermore, reports indicate the trailer became the most-viewed year-to-date on Instagram with 79 million views and accumulated an additional 60 million views on TikTok.

Equally impressive, the first trailer for Toy Story 5 scored over 142 million views in its debut day online, surpassing the strong initial performance of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's recent first look. The similarly paced teaser showed the beloved toys, including Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), terrified by a new arrival in the household: a digital tablet named LilyPad, voiced by Greta Lee.

The high expectations for The Devil Wears Prada 2 are well-founded, as the movie is set to bring back most of its original cast, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, all reprising their memorable roles. David Frankel also returns as director. Given the original film's status as an iconic, quotable, and intriguing movie, the sequel is poised to captivate audiences once more. It will be particularly fascinating to see how the film explores the fashion world, the publishing business, and the characters' intricate interpersonal dynamics in an era where social media has made fashion and marketing more universally accessible for discourse and dissection. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated to premiere in theaters on May 1, 2026, with Aline Brosh McKenna as writer and Wendy Finerman as producer.

Toy Story 5 will reunite Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the beloved gang in the next chapter of their decades-spanning journey. The plot is expected to delve into the challenges faced by toys as they become less relevant in a world increasingly dominated by technology. The movie will reportedly give a significant focus to Jessie (Joan Cusack), following her reduced role in Toy Story 4. Intriguingly, the trailer also confirms that Woody will somehow be seen alongside his old friends, despite his choice to leave with Bo Peep (Annie Potts) at the end of the previous installment. Toy Story 5 is set to debut just one month after The Devil Wears Prada 2, with its theatrical release scheduled for June 19, 2026.

While fans eagerly await these highly anticipated sequels, the original The Devil Wears Prada is currently available for streaming on Hulu, and all four Toy Story movies can be watched on Disney+.
