Crypto Volatility Returns: Bitcoin, Monero, Stellar Caught in Market Depression

The cryptocurrency market is experiencing renewed volatility, with key assets like Monero (XMR), Stellar (XLM), Bitcoin (BTC), and Hyperliquid (HYPE) showing distinct price movements and technical indicators on October 23. While some cryptocurrencies are extending rallies, others face significant downward pressure or are consolidating within established ranges.

Monero (XMR) Extends Rally Above September High: Monero (XMR) stands out as one of the strongest performers in the current market, trading near $629 after a daily range between $604 and $656. The privacy coin has more than doubled from its July low of approximately $300, maintaining a strong upward trend. A significant development is its recent breach above the September peak, which was near $635. This level previously acted as strong resistance in mid-September, and XMR is now trading above it. A daily close above $635 would confirm this breakout. Although XMR tested $656 during the day and pulled back, indicating some seller activity, this is not yet a strong signal of a trend reversal. All major moving averages are sloping upward and positioned below the current price, with short-term averages near $565 and $548, medium-term near $538, and longer-term averages near $492 and $443. The substantial gap between the current price and the longer averages highlights the rapid pace of the rally. Such strong trends often see pullbacks to the faster moving averages before resuming their ascent, suggesting the $565 to $540 area could be a key support zone for buyers. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is near 70, bordering on overbought territory, which might suggest a pause or cooling period. However, rising volume over the past few days lends support to the breakout. On the upside, $656 is the immediate target, followed by $700, with the January high near $800 acting as major resistance. Key support levels on the downside are $565, $540, and $490. As long as XMR maintains its position above $635, buyers retain control; a fall back below this level could indicate a failed breakout.

Stellar (XLM) Slips Under $0.18 Amid Seller Dominance: In contrast to Monero, Stellar (XLM) is currently moving in a bearish direction, trading near $0.1777 on Binance, down from an opening price of $0.1838. The daily range was narrow, between $0.1768 and $0.1845, and buyers have struggled to sustain any upward movement. XLM has experienced a significant decline of approximately 25% from its late September peak of about $0.237. The cryptocurrency is now trading below all its major moving averages, which are clustered between $0.19 and $0.196. This cluster has transformed into a resistance zone, meaning any upward attempt will first need to overcome this area. Until this resistance is cleared, rallies are more likely to dissipate than to initiate a new uptrend. The closest support level is at $0.172, where the price previously bounced earlier in the week. XLM is currently trading only about 3% above this critical support. A decisive break below $0.172 could pave the way for a further decline toward $0.17 and potentially the August low near $0.1525. The RSI is near 38, which is below the midpoint of 50, indicating that sellers hold the advantage. However, it is not yet oversold, implying there is still potential for further downside. Volume has remained low in recent weeks, suggesting a lack of strong interest from traders, which contributes to the slow price drift. If XLM manages to bounce, the initial targets would be $0.19, $0.20, and then $0.22. A move back above $0.19 would be the first indication that the downtrend is nearing its end. However, if $0.172 fails to hold, XLM could slide towards the lower end of its summer trading range. For a significant trend change, XLM will likely require a strong surge in trading volume.

Bitcoin (BTC) Rejected at $84,000, Consolidates Near Range Bottom: Bitcoin (BTC) is trading near $81,500 after facing rejection at the upper end of its daily range. BTC opened near $84,000, reached a high of $84,294, and subsequently dropped to a low of $81,483. This red candle effectively negates the gains from the previous day, suggesting continued seller activity above the $84,000 mark. Since mid-September, Bitcoin has been confined within a broad trading range, with resistance near $87,000 (tested and failed twice in September and early October) and support near $80,000 (where buyers intervened at the beginning of the month). The price is currently positioned close to the bottom of this range. Each subsequent bounce has shown less strength, and the highs are gradually lowering, signaling a potential fading of bullish momentum. The shorter-term moving averages are grouped between $80,800 and $82,500, with Bitcoin trading directly on top of them, representing the first line of defense. The longer-term averages are ascending and situated lower, near $77,400 and $76,100. Despite the recent rejection, all moving averages continue to point upwards, maintaining a positive larger trend that originated from the August rally. The substantial gap above the long averages also indicates that a deeper pullback is possible without necessarily breaking the overarching trend. The RSI is near 43, below the midpoint of 50, reflecting a slowdown in momentum compared to the strong readings observed in late August and September. Trading volume is average, with no indications of panic selling. Immediate support begins at $80,800, followed by $80,000, and then $77,400. A daily close below $80,000 could lead the price toward the $77,000 to $76,000 zone. To resume an upward trajectory, Bitcoin needs to climb back above $84,300 to challenge the $87,000 resistance. For the time being, $80,000 remains the most crucial level; as long as it holds, the established trading range remains intact.

Hyperliquid (HYPE) Tests Critical Support Amid Downward Pressure: Hyperliquid (HYPE) is currently under considerable pressure, trading near $78.17 on Coinbase after opening at $80.64 and reaching a low of $77.69. The price has dropped approximately 20% from its late September peak near $98. Following this peak, HYPE has formed a series of lower highs, with a bounce to $95 in early October failing to sustain. Sellers have largely controlled the trend for about a month. The price is also trading below its short and medium-term moving averages, which are situated between $82.5 and $85.8, now acting as resistance. The orange moving average near $77.60 is identified as a critical support level, with HYPE trading almost directly on it. The price previously touched this area a few days prior and bounced, but the rebound was weak and quickly faded. This marks the third test of this support in a short period, and repeated tests tend to weaken a support level. A decisive break below $77.60 would be a strong negative signal. The RSI is near 40, indicating weak momentum but not yet oversold conditions, suggesting there is still room for further decline before potential buyer interest might emerge. Volume has decreased to low levels, indicating a lack of strong conviction from either buyers or sellers. If the $77.60 support fails, the next support level is near $75, the low from earlier this month. Below that, the long-term moving average near $65.50 represents the next major support area, which could imply another 15% drop. On the upside, HYPE needs to reclaim $82.50 to improve its short-term outlook. After that, $85.80 and $90 are the subsequent targets. While the long-term trend for HYPE remains upward as the price is still well above its long average, buyers must rigorously defend the $77.60 level in the short term to prevent a deeper price pullback.
