Creator Health Crisis Plagues 'One Piece': Major Delay Rocks Beloved Franchise!

The global phenomenon One Piece has garnered significant attention recently, with updates spanning both its long-running manga series and its acclaimed Netflix live-action adaptation. While the manga continues its serialization, creator Eiichiro Oda's health has become a focal point, leading to unexpected delays.

Chapter 1162 of the One Piece manga, initially delayed, is now slated for release on October 12th, 2025, after a reported second consecutive hiatus. Such back-to-back breaks for mangakas, especially creators of Oda's stature with a weekly serialization since 1997, typically signal concerns over the creator's health. Shonen Jump issued an apology to fans for the delay, though specific updates on Oda's condition remain pending. This situation is understandable given Oda's considerable workload, which includes developing the weekly manga, introducing new characters over decades, and contributing to the Netflix adaptation. The manga itself is currently delving into a crucial stage, exploring the God Valley Incident and its intricate backstory.

Amidst the manga's breaks, excitement is building for the live-action adaptation, with Season 2 of the Netflix series set to anchor in 2026. This adaptation follows Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates as they embark on their quest to discover the world’s ultimate treasure. According to the official synopsis, the upcoming season will see the crew encounter "bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies." A notable location confirmed for exploration is Loguetown, famously known as the site of Pirate King Gold Roger's execution, with Netflix already offering glimpses of this pivotal setting that launched the Great Pirate Era.

Looking further ahead, Netflix has already announced plans for a third season of the live-action series, a reveal made at the annual One Piece celebration in Tokyo this past August. Production leadership will see changes, as co-executive producer Ian Stokes will step up to serve as co-showrunner alongside Joe Tracz, taking over from Matt Owens, who served as executive producer and co-showrunner for the first two seasons. While an exact premiere date for Season 2 in 2026 is yet to be announced, fans eagerly await both the manga's continuation and the expanding live-action narrative, wishing for Eiichiro Oda's swift recovery.
