Citizen TV Dismisses Linus Kaikai Firing Reports

Royal Media Services (RMS) and its flagship product, Citizen TV, have unequivocally denied widespread internet reports suggesting the termination of their editorial and strategies director, Linus Kaikai. Claims emerged online on Tuesday, June 25, and Wednesday, June 26, alleging that Kaikai had been dismissed from his role. Citizen TV swiftly moved to denounce these allegations as "fake news," urging its audience to disregard them entirely with the statement, "Treat this FAKE NEWS with the contempt it deserves."
The misleading reports primarily claimed that Kaikai's supposed sacking was due to "skewed coverage of protests" and alleged links with civil society groups aiming to undermine the current government. Some posts even purported that he had helped civil society organizations to tarnish the reputation of President William Ruto's administration through imbalanced broadcasting. RMS and Citizen TV have maintained that these assertions are baseless and false.
Linus Kaikai boasts a distinguished journalism career spanning several decades, having been a pivotal figure in Kenyan media. He has been at the helm of Citizen TV's editorial operations for over three years, overseeing the administrative and editorial aspects of the news and current affairs departments. His appointment as the RMS Group Editorial Director was officially announced by RMS Managing Director Wachira Waruru in 2022, following the exit of Joe Ageyo, who transitioned to the Nation Media Group (NMG).
Kaikai was part of a highly regarded team that moved from NMG to Citizen TV in early 2018, with the objective of revolutionizing the media house's editorial productions. Prior to his tenure at Citizen TV and NTV, where he served as managing editor for nine years, he held the position of managing editor at KTN from 2007 to 2009. His extensive career is marked by several accolades, including the prestigious CNN African Television Journalist Award in 1997 and being named Environmental Journalist of the Year in 1998.
An accomplished academic, Kaikai is an alumnus of the University of Westminster in the United Kingdom, where he earned a master's degree in international journalism. He also holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi and completed his inaugural tertiary education at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC), where he obtained a diploma in radio and television production. His broad educational background and profound professional experience underscore his standing as a leading figure in Kenyan journalism.
