Chrisley Family's 'Rougher' Reality: Life After Prison & New Show Details Revealed!

The Chrisley family is making a comeback to television with a brand-new reality series, "The Chrisleys: Back to Reality." This show marks their return to the screen two years after "Chrisley Knows Best" concluded, following the sentencing of Todd and Julie Chrisley for tax evasion and bank fraud. Their legal challenges were ultimately resolved in May 2025 when President Donald Trump granted them a high-profile presidential pardon. With their legal troubles now behind them, the family is prepared to tell their story from an intimate perspective.
"The Chrisleys: Back to Reality" is scheduled to premiere as a two-night television event on Lifetime, airing Monday, September 1, and Tuesday, September 2. Each night will feature a two-hour episode, beginning at 8/7c. Following this premiere, back-to-back episodes will continue on Tuesday, September 9, with the season finale slated for Tuesday, September 16.
The series will feature many familiar faces, including Todd and Julie Chrisley, who led the original series. They return alongside their children Savannah, Chase, and Grayson, as well as their adopted granddaughter Chloe. Fan-favorite Nanny Faye is also set to bring her signature wit and heart to the new series. Julie’s parents, Harvey and Pam, will be joining the show for the first time. Notably absent from this new project are Todd’s older children from a previous relationship, Lindsie and Kyle Chrisley, who are not participating.
An emotional five-minute trailer for the show was released on July 31, offering fans a raw glimpse into the family’s current dynamic. The video opens with a poignant phone call between Savannah and her father, Todd, who was still incarcerated at the time. "We will get through this," Todd tells Savannah, adding, "I don’t know how it’s going to end, but at some point, the truth is going to come out." Savannah also expresses the deep impact of her parents' absence, stating in the clip, "With my parents gone, our household is completely divided. I told my parents, I don’t know if it can ever be repaired, honestly." Chase reflects on the previous show's success, saying, "I don’t think people really understood how big Chrisley Knows Best was. My dad’s this insane human. I think it definitely made good TV." He further highlights the contrast: "We were filming one thing that was this happy life... Cameras go down, and we’re also fighting a fed case."
Todd and Julie Chrisley were originally sentenced in November 2022 to a combined 19 years in prison for multiple charges, including bank fraud, wire fraud, and tax evasion. Their sentences were reduced in 2023 amid ongoing appeals. The turning point arrived on May 27, 2025, when President Donald Trump officially announced their pardons during a phone call with the Chrisley children. Trump conveyed, "It’s a terrible thing, but it’s a great thing, because your parents are going to be free and clean. I don’t know them, but give them my regards and wish them a good luck."
Despite their newfound freedom, Todd and Julie candidly discussed the unexpected challenges of returning to normal life on the July 23 episode of their "Chrisley Confessions 2.0" podcast. Julie, 52, and Todd, 56, shared a general consensus among former inmates that, surprisingly, "life is rougher than prison life" from an emotional and psychological standpoint. Todd explained that while the physical conditions in prison are horrific, there was a certain "mental simplicity" due to the limited choices and reduced daily responsibilities. Julie elaborated that during incarceration, one tends to become increasingly "removed to the world," and adapting to a routine, even if it meant a form of emotional detachment from their children for survival, became necessary. She emphasized, "I had to just watch out for me. I had to take care of me. I had to make sure that I was good, as good as I could be. Physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and that’s all I could really do."
The couple, who bypassed a halfway house and did not have to report to a probation officer, felt "thrown right back into the real world" without a gradual transition. This abrupt re-entry into the complexities of everyday life, starkly contrasted with the structured environment of prison, has made their post-release adjustment a significant hurdle. They are now prepared to share this challenging new chapter of their lives in "The Chrisleys: Back to Reality," offering an unprecedented look at their journey to rebuild.
