The singer-songwriter's sixth studio release secured three coveted No. 1 positions, marking a triumphant return to the music scene. The album topped the charts for Top Album Sales, Vinyl Albums, and Indie Store Album Sales, demonstrating strong consumer demand and critical acclaim.
Beyond its chart-topping success, "Middle of Nowhere" also performed exceptionally well in other major categories. It landed at No. 2 on both Top Country Albums and Americana/Folk Albums, reinforcing Musgraves' genre versatility and appeal. Furthermore, the album made a strong showing on the all-genre Billboard 200 at No. 3 and entered the Top Streaming Albums chart at No. 10, indicating broad engagement across various consumption platforms.
The album's commercial performance has set new records for Musgraves, launching with an impressive 100,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States during the week ending May 7. This figure represents her best week ever by units, underscoring the anticipation surrounding her new work. A significant portion of these sales came from physical formats, with vinyl purchases alone contributing over 37,000 units, marking her best sales week ever for vinyl records.
"Middle of Nowhere" is Kacey Musgraves' sixth studio album, originally announced in early March and officially released on May 1. The project boasts an exciting lineup of collaborations, featuring renowned artists such as Gregory Alan Isakov, Miranda Lambert, Willie Nelson, and Billy Strings. The album was preceded by the single “Dry Spell,” which peaked at No. 15 on the Hot Country Songs chart in March, building momentum for the full release.
This success solidifies Musgraves' consistent performance on the charts, as "Middle of Nowhere" marks her third consecutive No. 1 on the Top Album Sales tally. Her previous albums, "Deeper Well" (2024) and "Star-Crossed" (2021), also achieved the top spot, showcasing a remarkable streak of chart dominance. Looking ahead, Musgraves is set to embark on her "Middle of Nowhere" arena tour, which is scheduled to commence on August 21 in Chicago and continue through the end of October.
The latest Top Album Sales ranking saw a busy week, with "Middle of Nowhere" leading a competitive top 10. Five other albums also debuted in the top tier: ILLIT’s MAMIHLAPINATAPAI at No. 3, The Black Keys’ PEACHES! at No. 6, Isaiah Rashad’s It’s Been Awful at No. 7, Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live) at No. 9, and Tori Amos’ In Times of Dragons at No. 10. Meanwhile, Noah Kahan’s The Great Divide fell to No. 2, BTS’ former leader ARIRANG held steady at No. 4, and Michael Jackson’s classic albums Thriller and Number Ones both saw significant jumps, climbing to No. 5 and No. 8 respectively.
