Mr. Ibu's Family Crisis Deepens: Widow Pleads for Help Amidst Property Sale Claims

Content creator King Mitchy has announced a significant fundraising effort by Nigerians, who collectively donated N7.5 million to support the family of the late Nollywood actor John Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu. This substantial sum was raised following a public appeal that shed light on the severe financial struggles faced by Mr Ibu’s widow, Stella Maris, and her children.

The fundraising initiative was sparked after King Mitchy shared an interview where Stella Maris revealed that her family was grappling with the inability to pay house rent, school fees, and other essential living expenses. She disclosed that the family had been without electricity for approximately two months, forcing them to seek alternative charging solutions for their phones. Furthermore, unpaid school fees had led to their children being withdrawn from classes, and the family had even resorted to fetching water from a well due to disconnected running water services. Stella Maris further indicated that their financial situation had become so severe that she received another notification from her children's school demanding payment of outstanding fees.

Giving an update on the successful campaign, King Mitchy shared a video showing Stella Maris expressing profound gratitude for the public's support. Stella Maris confirmed that the N7.5 million raised would be immediately utilized to address the family’s most pressing needs. Specifically, the funds are designated to cover the children’s school fees, the eldest daughter’s WAEC examination fees, house rent, and other urgent household expenses.

King Mitchy also disclosed that she engaged in a lengthy and heartfelt discussion with Stella Maris, advising her to consider relocating to a more affordable apartment to alleviate the family's ongoing financial burden. She expressed immense gratitude to all who donated and shared the appeal, clarifying that her involvement with the family began only two days prior when a neighbor reached out, driven solely by the desire to ensure the children received the necessary help.

The update on the donations, however, came amidst a public dispute. Stella Maris, the widow, faced accusations from her stepson, Somtochukwu, who is Mr Ibu’s fourth child. Somtochukwu released a video alleging that Stella Maris had secretly sold off his late father’s properties in Enugu, Asaba, and Lagos, and had kept all the proceeds for herself and her biological children. These accusations were a direct response to Stella Maris’s initial interview with King Mitchy, where she had highlighted her family’s financial distress.

In a follow-up interview with King Mitchy, Stella Maris vehemently denied Somtochukwu’s claims. She clarified that the only property sold was a piece of land located in their village. She stated that this transaction was carried out with the full consultation of the late actor's other children. Furthermore, she disclosed that the entire N17 million generated from the sale of this land was strictly allocated and used to cover Mr Ibu’s funeral expenses. She challenged them to verify this with the children involved in the sale, asserting that
