Chart Conqueror: Tate McRae's 'Housewife' Storms to #1 in Australia!
Tate McRae achieves her first Australian No. 1 with "Housewife" as Olivia Rodrigo's "Expectations" soars to No. 2 with a new version. On the albums chart, Fontaines D.C. celebrates their first chart-topper, while Zach Bryan, The Avalanches, and The Rubens also make strong debuts.
The Australian music charts have seen significant shifts this week, with Tate McRae achieving her first number one single and several prominent artists making strong debuts across both the ARIA Singles and Albums Charts.
On the ARIA Singles Chart, Canadian pop artist Tate McRae has soared to the top spot with her new track “Housewife,” released via RCA/Sony. This marks McRae’s inaugural chart-topping single and her sixth appearance in the ARIA Top 10. “Housewife,” which is a preview of her upcoming fourth album, surpasses the peak of her 2023 hit “Greedy,” which reached No. 2.
Another notable rise on the singles chart is Olivia Rodrigo’s “Expectations” (Geffen/Universal), which made a remarkable leap from No. 78 to No. 2. This surge is attributed to the release of a new version featuring Chappell Roan, pushing “Expectations” to a new personal best, significantly higher than its previous peak of No. 14 in June. With this achievement, Rodrigo now boasts 15 top 10 entries on the ARIA Chart, while Roan secures her fourth.
The French electronic music duo Justice also made an impact with their new track “Flower In A Hurricane” (Ed Banger Records/Universal), featuring an impressive lineup including fellow Grammy Award-winners Tame Impala and SZA, alongside King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Debuting at No. 43, the song was composed for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI. This collaboration reunites Justice with Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, who previously contributed vocals to their Grammy-winning, Billboard No. 1 hit “Neverender” and supported Justice on their Australian tour last year.
Turning to the ARIA Albums Chart, Irish modern rock band Fontaines D.C. have secured their first No. 1 with their fifth studio album, “Dopamine Chamber” (XL/Remote Control). Hailing from Dublin, this success marks their fourth top 40 entry since 2020. Following closely, U.S. country sensation Zach Bryan’s new EP, “Young Manhood And Other Donatable Organs” (Warner), opened at No. 4. The lead track from the EP, “Lies,” featuring Lana Del Ray, also debuted at No. 12 on the singles chart, contributing to Bryan’s fourth top 20 album appearance.
Melbourne electronic favorites The Avalanches returned to the Top 10 with “No Bad Memories” (EMI), landing at No. 5. This is their fourth top 10 effort, adding to a legacy that includes their celebrated debut “Since I Left You” (No. 5 in 2000), “Wildflower” (No. 1 in 2016), and “We Will Always Love You” (No. 4 in 2020).
Aussie indie-rock band The Rubens continued their impressive streak, achieving their sixth consecutive Top 10 album with “Group Therapy,” which debuted at No. 6. Notably, “Group Therapy” is the band’s first independently released album.
ARIA Hall of Fame inductee Tina Arena also made a significant return to the national tally with her 14th release, “Way Of The World” (Positive Dream Records/Universal), debuting at No. 11. The six-track EP received a boost from the Australian television premiere of “Tina Arena: Unravel Me.” Arena, a former child star, will celebrate 50 years in music with a month-long residency in Melbourne next August and boasts nine top 10 albums, including two leaders: “Don’t Ask” (1994) and “In Deep” (1997).
The ARIA Top 50 Albums Chart also saw new entries from Ashe with “The Girl Of Your Dreams” (No. 13), Ziggy Alberts with “Twin Flames” (No. 28), and Rachel Chinouriri with “I Think I Spoke Too Soon” (No. 48), reflecting a dynamic week for new music releases across Australia.
