Both Northern and Southern California have been shaking early this week as multiple light earthquakes have struck the state.
The latest tremor occurred shortly after midnight Tuesday morning just offshore the Northern California community of Petrolia. The U.S. Geological Survey gave the quake a preliminary rating of 4.1 and said it occurred roughly 12 miles below the surface.
No damage or injuries were immediately reported.
Two other notable tremors happened Monday morning. At 9:44 a.m. local time, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake shook San Bernardino, located about 60 miles east of Los Angeles. Four minutes later, there was a magnitude-3 aftershock.
The main quake was described as "small but powerful" by one user on X.
There were no notable reports of damage from these tremors, and nobody was seriously injured. The same area was shaken by another 3.6 earthquake late Monday night, which was felt by many people in the area, much like the others.
