Byron Scott Accused of Sexual Assault

Former Los Angeles Lakers star Byron Scott is facing accusations of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl nearly 40 years ago. The allegations include sexual battery, sexual assault, false imprisonment, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. According to legal documents, the alleged incident occurred in 1987 at a Lakers team event at a private school in Los Angeles. The complainant, identified as Hayley Dylan, was 15 years old at the time.
Scott has admitted to having sexual contact with Dylan but claims he believed she was 18. His attorney, Linda Bauermeister, stated that Scott respects women and is shocked by the claims, asserting he had no idea Dylan would claim to be underage until 35 years later. Dylan is also naming her high school, Campbell Hall School, as a defendant, alleging the school failed to protect her.
The complaint details that after a Lakers filming event, Scott asked Dylan for a tour of the school. During the tour, Scott allegedly led her to an unmarked room where he "forcefully grabbed Hayley by the arm and pulled her inside," leaving her "frightened and confused."
According to the complaint, Scott then allegedly began kissing her against her protests, pushed her to her knees, removed her top, and attempted to force her to perform oral sex. Dylan claims she pleaded with Scott to stop and tried to turn her head away, stating she was "terrified" during the interaction. The complaint also alleges that Scott's teammates, an assistant coach, a trainer, and film production staff witnessed Scott leading Dylan down the hallway and returning 20 minutes later.
Dylan reportedly used a payphone to call her mother for a ride home after the incident. The complaint states that before the alleged assault, Dylan was a young girl who "loved school" and "never kissed a boy," and that the incident "shattered" her innocence and "forever altered" her life.
At the time of the alleged incident, Scott was married to his first wife, Anita Scott, whom he divorced in 2014. He is currently married to Cecilia Gutierrez, whom he wed in 2020. Approximately 20 years after the alleged assault, Dylan was reportedly asked by a former student if she was "the girl that hooked up with Byron Scott?"
The lawsuit states that Dylan has suffered and continues to suffer from "severe psychological and emotional distress, as well as feelings of embarrassment, loss of self-esteem, shame, and humiliation" since the alleged sexual assault. Dylan is seeking over $25,000 for loss of earnings and attorney fees from both Scott and Campbell Hall, and she is requesting a trial by jury.
Campbell Hall School, known for educating actors such as Dakota and Elle Fanning, the Olsen sisters, Ariel Winter, and John David Washington, has not released a statement. Similarly, an attorney for Scott has not commented on the allegations.
