Bulls Channel Jordan Era Magic: Team Achieves Historic 5-0 Start for First Time Since 90s Dominance

The Chicago Bulls have made an impressive start to their season, standing as the lone undefeated team in the Eastern Conference with a 5-0 record. This marks the first time since the 1996-97 season that the Bulls have achieved such a fast start, and only the third instance in franchise history. Their latest victory came against the New York Knicks, a commanding 135-125 win on Friday night.

Despite their early success, the team maintains a grounded perspective, acknowledging that the season is still in its nascent stages. Bulls guard Josh Giddey emphasized this sentiment, stating, "We feel good as a group of where we're at right now, but there's a long way to go." Giddey highlighted the team's depth, with different players consistently stepping up and six or seven individuals averaging double figures, reflecting a broad impact across the roster.

Giddey himself was a pivotal force in the win over the Knicks, delivering a career-high 32 points, along with 10 rebounds and nine assists. This performance was his best scoring outing since joining the Bulls. He contributed significantly in the first half alone, scoring 21 points and sinking four 3-pointers, matching his career best for any half, as the Bulls built a substantial 72-53 lead. Through the first five games, Giddey has been a standout, averaging 22 points, 8 assists, and 8.8 rebounds, with impressive shooting percentages of 48% overall and 45% from beyond the arc.

Expressing his comfort and confidence within the team, Giddey noted, "It's a place where I'm wanted. I love having confidence from my teammates and the coaches to trust me to go out there and make plays." This belief, he feels, propels him and the team in the right direction. The Bulls' offensive strategy, characterized by fast play and effective ball movement, was evident with 31 assists on 45 field goals against the Knicks, and six players finishing in double figures.

The team's camaraderie also plays a significant role in their success. Giddey shared, "We all love each other, we all love playing with each other. And when you enjoy the people you get to go to work with every day, it makes it a lot more fun and enjoyable." The Bulls have also demonstrated their strength against formidable opponents, securing four of their wins against projected Eastern Conference playoff teams: New York, Orlando, Atlanta, and Detroit.

Looking ahead, the Bulls face a continued test of their mettle, with their next game being a rematch against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, followed by a home game against the Philadelphia 76ers, who recently suffered their first loss of the season. Coach Billy Donovan, who achieved his 200th victory with the team on Friday, praised the team's belief, strong connection, and good relationships. While acknowledging the excellent start, Donovan echoed the sentiment of caution, reminding everyone, "Listen, it's very early. It's five games and I'm happy with the start that we've got, just like, yeah, it's five games. We get a lot more ways to go and we can't lose sight."
