Botswana Music Authority Slams Premier League's Behavior

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) has openly expressed its profound dissatisfaction with the operational conduct of the Botswana Premier League (BFL). During a recent press briefing, BFA president Tariq Babitseng highlighted the significant trust placed in the BFL by the current National Executive Committee (NEC) when it ascended to leadership. A deliberate decision was made to grant the Botswana Football League full autonomy, a move further solidified by overturning a previous resolution that would have reduced the number of elite teams to 12, thereby maintaining the 16-team format. These structural concessions were explicitly intended to provide the BFL with the optimal platform to manage its affairs successfully and independently.

However, this initial trust has regrettably deteriorated into disappointment, with the BFA NEC now openly condemning the BFL's daily operational handling. Babitseng articulated that the current state of the BFL, coupled with the behavior and character exhibited by its directors and shareholders, falls significantly short of the professional leadership standards envisioned by the mother body when autonomy was granted. He sternly reminded the BFL leadership that while they possess two voting rights within the football structures, this minor administrative leverage does not grant them the freedom to conduct affairs as they wish, especially considering that the Premier League remains the primary public face of Botswana football.

The escalating situation has now drawn high-level regulatory scrutiny, prompting the BFA to consider disciplinary or corrective interventions. President Babitseng confirmed that he is awaiting a comprehensive report from the Chief Executive Officer and Maokaneng Bontshetshe, both of whom serve on the BFL board. Furthermore, the BFA president also acknowledged receiving official correspondence from the Botswana National Sport Commission regarding the ongoing instability within the league. The BFA NEC stands prepared to take definitive action once these full board reports are delivered, signaling a firm stance that the mother body will no longer tolerate governance failures that compromise the integrity and reputation of local football.
