Titus Welliver Returns to Crime Drama in MGM+ Series The Westies

Titus Welliver is set to take on a dramatically different role from his iconic portrayal of Harry Bosch in the upcoming MGM+ crime series The Westies, scheduled to premiere on July 12.

The actor, best known for leading the long-running Bosch franchise, will portray Glenn Keenan, a morally compromised New York police officer navigating the violent criminal underworld of 1980s Hell’s Kitchen. The role marks a sharp departure from the principled detective character that made Welliver a fan favorite.

Set during one of New York City's most turbulent eras, The Westies follows the rise and struggles of the notorious Irish-American gang known as the Westies as they battle for influence against powerful organized crime families.

The series explores the escalating tensions surrounding lucrative development projects, including construction linked to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, which transformed parts of Manhattan and intensified competition among criminal organizations.

According to Welliver, his character is a Vietnam War veteran whose ethical boundaries have been eroded by years of operating in a dangerous environment. The complex antihero role offers the actor an opportunity to explore darker themes than those associated with Harry Bosch.

Joining Welliver is an ensemble cast featuring J.K. Simmons as gang leader Eamon Sweeney, alongside Tom Brittney, Jessica Frances Dukes, Sarah Bolger and Allen Leech.

The drama was created by Chris Brancato and Michael Panes. Brancato, known for acclaimed crime series such as Narcos and Godfather of Harlem, also serves as showrunner and executive producer.

Despite embarking on a new project, Welliver remains closely tied to the Bosch universe. He starred as Harry Bosch for seven seasons before reprising the role in Bosch: Legacy.

Fans can also expect to see him return in the upcoming second season of Ballard, further extending his presence in the franchise. Interest in the Bosch universe remains strong, with additional projects reportedly in development.

With its blend of organized crime, political corruption and gritty police drama, The Westies is already generating significant attention ahead of its summer debut, positioning itself as one of the most anticipated crime series of the year.
