Bollywood Star Zareen Khan Blasts Paparazzi Over Objectification: 'Zoom In On Areas Where...'

Actress and model Zareen Khan, who has primarily worked in the Hindi film industry, also boasts credits in Punjabi, Telugu, and Tamil films. Making her Bollywood debut as a princess in "Veer," she has since appeared in notable films like "Housefull 2," "Hate Story 2," and "Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele." Beyond her cinematic achievements, Khan has emerged as a vocal critic of the evolving media landscape, particularly the concerning trends within paparazzi culture.
In a recent conversation with Hindi Rush, Zareen Khan candidly expressed her strong disapproval of the growing practice among some paparazzi to zoom in on female celebrities' body parts in videos and photos. She unequivocally described this trend as "disgusting" and a significant concern regarding the portrayal of women in the public eye. Khan emphasized her difficulty in comprehending this aspect of modern paparazzi culture, stating, "I cannot really understand today’s paparazzi culture. I’m not saying all of them do it, but there are many paps who zoom in on areas where there’s absolutely no need to."
Zareen Khan further elaborated on the detrimental impact of such content, asserting that it is not only disrespectful to the celebrity but also misleading to the audience. She underscored that a celebrity is recognized by their face and their work, questioning the rationale behind focusing on "random body parts" and using them for "Guess who?" type content. She was quoted as saying, "A celebrity is known by their face, right? So, how can you show some random body part and ask, 'Guess who?' And that too is a weird body part. I don’t understand what they're trying to do."
Khan's sentiments resonate with a growing chorus of public figures who have voiced similar discomfort. In recent months, actresses such as Janhvi Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, Neha Bhasin, Rashami Desai, Mona Singh, Ayesha Khan, and Manushi Chhillar have all shared their unease with the media's tendency to capture them from inappropriate angles, particularly from behind. Zareen observed that while such videos once went viral, the public's perception is shifting. "Earlier, I thought their videos were going viral because of this. But now, even the public, the audience, is not enjoying it anymore. They also find it disgusting," she added.
A recent incident highlighted Khan's personal stand on the issue. During a public appearance, while dressed in a lemon-yellow chikankari kurta paired with denim and jhumkas, she initially greeted photographers. However, upon noticing them clicking her from behind, she turned around and firmly instructed, "Mujhe dekho, ye nahi" (Look at me, not here), explicitly pointing to her back. This direct confrontation underscores her commitment to advocating for more ethical and respectful media practices.
On the professional front, Zareen Khan was last seen in the 2021 film "Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele" and has not yet announced her next project.
