Billie Eilish Hits the Big Screen! Tour Film Debuts at Historic Theatre Before Renovation!

Paramount Pictures is collaborating with Westwood Village’s iconic Village Theatre to host the premiere of “Billie Eilish — Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)” on May 6. This highly anticipated concert film, co-directed by acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron and global music sensation Billie Eilish, was captured during Eilish’s hugely successful, sold-out world tour. Following its special premiere event, the film is set to open in theaters for wider release on May 8.

The Village Theatre itself carries significant historical weight, having been built in 1930 and serving as the venue for hundreds of premieres over its 90-plus year history. In 2024, the theater was acquired by Jason Reitman and the Village Directors Circle. They plan to present a limited series of premieres and screenings throughout the upcoming summer, in partnership with the American Cinematheque, before the theater embarks on an extensive one-year renovation and restoration project scheduled to commence in the fall.

Reflecting on the significance of the venue, James Cameron expressed his profound connection, stating, “I have known the Village Theatre in Westwood as an iconic picture palace since before I started directing, back in the Cretaceous. It is moving, to me, to know that Billie and I are premiering our new film at a theater that has so much meaning to L.A.’s cinematic history. It’s also uplifting that friends of the Village Theatre have banded together to protect and preserve it, in an age when our dream of cinema itself is at risk.”

Billie Eilish shared her personal excitement, remarking, “Premiering this movie at the legendary Village Theatre in my hometown is a dream for me.” Paramount Pictures, through its Co-Chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein, underscored their commitment to the cinematic experience for future generations. They emphasized, “Before the Village Theatre begins its next chapter, it felt especially meaningful to open its doors for legendary filmmaker James Cameron and Billie Eilish, a cultural icon and L.A. native.”

To ensure the highest quality presentation for this special one-night event, Paramount confirmed that the theater’s projection booth has been thoroughly refurbished by Dolby, promising the film will be presented “at the highest technical standard, including immersive 3D.” Jason Reitman echoed the sentiment of pride and gratitude, stating, “James Cameron, Billie Eilish and Paramount could have chosen any theater in L.A. to debut their groundbreaking concert film. We’re thrilled that they picked the Westwood Village. The restoration of the Village Theatre wouldn’t be possible without the support of our brilliant directors and deep community, including L.A.’s own Billie Eilish!”
