The Bears remain 13 points behind their Old Firm rivals, and the Belgian manager has been on the hot seat at Ibrox since Christmas.
Rangers have been linked with Sean Dyche, with the former Everton boss out of work, but the ‘Gers have chosen Ferguson over the Englishman to take over until the end of the season.
Rangers are set to meet ex-Gers captain Ferguson for talks on 24 February, news which caused former England defender, Keown, to voice his concerns about the decision.
The former Scotland international made almost 300 appearances for the Bears over two spells at the club, but has failed to impress as a manager since retiring.
Former Arsenal legend, Keown, said on talkSPORT (10.09am): "Well I'm concerned, has he got the necessary credentials. It's okay to be the top player at the football club but where has he managed? Alloa?
“Does that give him the necessary tools to do this job in the way that they want or is it just a case of bring one of their own? It looks very much like that, going back to players who have represented the club.
“In a way, if he's working in the media it would be no different than bringing me in to take over a top job somewhere, it seems a bit strange."

Ferguson’s other managerial jobs include an interim role at Blackpool in 2014, three years at Clyde from 2014-2017, and three years at Kelty Hearts from 2018-2021.
The former Birmingham midfielder has not managed a club since leaving Alloa, featuring regularly in the media and writing a column for the Daily Record.
Clement being fired came as a surprise to some Rangers fans, with new owners potentially buying the club.
Some fans had expected the current ownership group to stick with the Belgian to avoid having to pay any sort of severance deal, and make replacing their manager an issue for the incumbent owners.
Rangers will be provided with a massive injection of transfer cash if the 49ers Enterprises complete their deal to buy into the club, and with Ferguson on a reportedly short-term deal, next season could be a completely new slate for the club.
