Kaduna State news workers are lauding Governor Uba Sani for his support in distributing subsidized motorcycles to civil servants, particularly those in remote areas. This initiative, a collaboration between the Kaduna State Government, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), and Moure Consult, seeks to alleviate transportation challenges faced by workers, including teachers and healthcare personnel.
Comrade Hashidu Suleiman, Chief of Staff to the NLC Chairman, explained that the initiative arose from discussions between the state NLC chairman and the governor. "Everything is going as planned. When the state chairman met the governor, he raised concerns about the high cost of transportation affecting workers. The governor was very clear—teachers and health workers in hard-to-reach areas should be prioritized," he stated. Suleiman also appealed to the government to further subsidize the motorcycles, enabling more workers to benefit from the scheme.
Muhammad Yahyah, Head of Operations at Moure Consult Nigeria Limited, described the distribution process as seamless and well-structured. "We are the intermediary between the Kaduna State Government and the NLC, overseeing the distribution of both electric and fuel-powered motorcycles to civil servants," he said. Yahyah added that applicants were required to obtain and submit forms through the NLC for verification and database inclusion. Optimus Bank, a partner in the initiative, manages the registration and account opening process to protect beneficiaries' interests.
Yahyah highlighted the economic benefits, noting that the motorcycles—Harjung, Jingcheng, and electric models—are cost-effective and will enhance productivity while resolving transportation issues for workers. Beneficiaries have expressed considerable satisfaction with the scheme.
Micha Shabi, a civil servant and Person with Disability (PWD), described the initiative as transformative. "This is a great help to me. Before now, I used to spend nothing less than N2,500 to N5,000 daily on transportation for myself and my assistant. With this bike, things will be much easier," he said. He commended the state government for its commitment to inclusivity, noting the presence of a visually impaired beneficiary as evidence of this commitment.
Hadiza Rabiu, a school teacher, emphasized that teachers in Kaduna have faced transportation difficulties for years, making this intervention a significant improvement. "For the past 8 to 9 years, Kaduna teachers have suffered. But with this collaboration between the Kaduna government, Moure Consult, and Optimus Bank, things are changing," she said. Rabiu, who teaches in a hard-to-reach area, mentioned that she sometimes spent over N2,000 daily on transportation and dismissed concerns about women riding motorcycles, asserting that her work environment necessitates it.
Sa’adatu Ahmed, a health worker, believes the scheme will reduce her financial burden from daily commutes. "I’ve been spending so much on commercial transport, which is frustrating. This loan will significantly reduce my costs," she stated. The scheme targets eligible civil servants, including teachers and health workers.
