Kaduna Clears Outstanding Tuition Fees for Foreign Scholars

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has settled all outstanding tuition fees owed to foreign universities for students sponsored by the state government. The total payment amounts to $247,235.84, equivalent to N407,937,750. This covers fees for students who were left unaided by the previous administration in various countries, many of whom are studying Medicine and Nursing.
Yahya Saleh Ibrahim, the executive secretary of the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board, confirmed the payment. He stated that numerous students had been stranded abroad, unable to graduate, renew their visas, or access academic records because of these unpaid fees.
A breakdown of the payments shows that Debrecen University (UK/Hungary) received $51,400.00 (N84.8 million), and the University of Wollongong in Dubai received $13,827.08 (N22.8 million). Additionally, the Medical University of Havana was paid $164,010.00 (N270.6 million), and KIU IUIU Uganda received $17,998.00 (N29.7 million).
Ibrahim explained that this intervention aligns with Governor Sani’s focus on human capital development and expanding access to education for underprivileged students. The state government has also cleared foreign tuition fees for students from 2023 to the present.
“Governor Uba Sani has directed the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board to liaise with all foreign universities where Kaduna State students are studying to ascertain the status of their tuition fee payments,” Ibrahim stated. He added that this directive aims to identify and settle any outstanding payments not included in the board’s master list.
“The governor is determined to put in place a robust process that will end the hardship being experienced in foreign universities by Kaduna State students,” he said. Ibrahim emphasized that this intervention demonstrates the governor’s commitment to ensuring that no student is left behind due to financial constraints.
