Argentina Reveals Basketball Roster for Upcoming Training Camp

Argentina is set to commence its preparations for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 with a squad of 18 players. Head coach Mauro Polla has extended invitations to prominent young talents including Felipe Minzer, Tyler Kropp, and Ivan Prato. Notably, 11 of the 12 players who were part of the squad that achieved a commendable second-place finish at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup 2024 are among those invited; this performance secured Argentina's qualification for the U19 World Cup, which is scheduled to run from June 28 to July 6.
The key trio of Kropp, Minzer, and Prato also gained valuable international experience competing at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2024, where the national team finished in 10th position. Tyler Kropp's individual prowess was particularly recognized at the U18 AmeriCup, where he earned a spot in the All-Star Five, averaging an impressive 22.0 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.
Argentina's preliminary list for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 includes the following players: Viktor Bender, Fidel Cifuentes, Patricio Cogliati, Albano Costa, Fabricio Diaz, Jorge Diaz, Bruno Farias, Tomas Fernandez, Joaquin Folmer, Simon Gradin, Tyler Kropp, Felipe Minzer, Nicholas Petri, Matias Pikaluk, Ivan Prato, Ramiro Rodriguez, Thiago Sucatzky, and Thiago Villar.
The selected 18 players, ten of whom are currently playing their club basketball outside of Argentina, will convene for a training camp starting on June 2 at the Rosario Arena. This crucial preparation phase will continue until June 14. For the tournament itself, Coach Polla's team has been drawn into Group A, where they will face formidable opponents in New Zealand and Serbia, and will conclude their group stage matches against Mali.
Argentina boasts a rich and storied history in the FIBA U19 World Cup, having participated in all but one edition of the tournament (missing out in 1987). The nation has secured two medals in the competition's history, claiming third place (bronze) in both the 1979 and 1991 tournaments. More recently, the South Americans demonstrated their consistent strength by finishing fifth in the 2023 edition, marking their 11th appearance in the top-eight on the global stage for this age group.
