APC Gears Up for Pivotal National Convention in 2026!

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced its comprehensive schedule for internal party activities leading up to its National Convention, slated for March 28, 2026. This detailed timeline outlines a series of congresses designed to re-energize and restructure the party across all levels in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections. The announcement was made via the party's official X account, under the title: Schedule of Activities for 2025/2026 Nationwide Ward, Local Government, State and Zonal Congresses, National Convention and Related Activities.
According to the published schedule, the grassroots engagement will commence with ward congresses on February 18, 2026, followed swiftly by local government congresses on February 20, 2026. State congresses are planned for March 7, 2026, and zonal congresses across the six geopolitical zones will take place on March 21, 2026, culminating in the National Convention a week later. In a parallel initiative, the party's membership e-registration, which began on December 1, 2025, is scheduled to conclude on January 30, 2026, aiming to consolidate and expand its membership base.
These significant internal deliberations and preparations follow a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held recently at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. During this meeting, President Bola Tinubu delivered a stark message to the party leadership, emphasizing that the APC's current dominance in 28 states should not lead to complacency. He insisted on the urgent need for the ruling party to proactively build robust political structures, especially in states where it currently lacks governorships, warning against the law of diminishing returns if proper structuring is neglected ahead of the 2027 general elections. President Tinubu underscored the necessity for vigilance in these states, stressing that achieving governorship victories and sustaining electoral dominance requires strategic, state-level organization rather than an over-reliance on past successes.
Echoing the President's sentiments, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas jointly rallied party leaders. They called for enhanced unity, strict coalition discipline, and a stronger alignment between the executive and legislative arms of government. Their collective appeal was aimed at fostering a cohesive front, critical for navigating the complexities of the next electoral cycle and ensuring the party's continued political strength and success across the nation.
