Andrew Garfield Teases Spider-Man Return, But Fans Should Brace for a 'Catch'

Andrew Garfield, who famously portrayed Peter Parker in *The Amazing Spider-Man* films, has ignited renewed speculation about his future within the expansive Spider-Man universe, nearly a decade after his last appearance in *The Amazing Spider-Man 2*. Following his much-celebrated return in *Spider-Man: No Way Home*, where he united with Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland, Garfield has largely maintained a cryptic stance on future roles. However, his most recent comments offer a hopeful glimpse into a specific corner of the multiverse that has captured his interest.

During a recent discussion with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, Garfield was posed with questions regarding potential superhero team-ups or crossovers for his iteration of Spider-Man. Instead of aligning with the popular fan theory of *Avengers: Secret Wars*, Garfield expressed a distinct fondness for Sony’s animated *Spider-Verse* franchise. He openly declared his appreciation for creators Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, stating, “I really love the Spider-Verse movies. I love [Phil Lord] and [Christopher Miller]. Just putting that out there.” This indicates a strong inclination towards potentially engaging with the vibrant animated universe, which is slated to conclude its current storyline with *Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse*. While Garfield did make a technical appearance in *Across the Spider-Verse* through archival footage, his current remarks suggest a desire for a more active and integral involvement.

Despite his evident enthusiasm for the *Spider-Verse*, Garfield was notably unambiguous regarding *Avengers: Doomsday*, a project rumored for the near future. He bluntly stated to GQ, “No, unequivocally f***ing no,” when asked about his participation. This firm denial for *Doomsday* has led many fans to interpret his overall ambiguous stance as leaving the door open for other significant Marvel Cinematic Universe events, such as *Avengers: Secret Wars*, where a multiverse-colliding narrative could naturally accommodate his return.

Beyond his web-slinging persona, Garfield also shared his aspirations for collaboration with other prominent actors within the superhero genre. He expressed a strong desire to work with Tom Hardy, commending his “super fun” portrayal of Venom and describing Hardy as “a really formidable actor.” Additionally, Garfield revealed that Wolverine, iconically played by Hugh Jackman, remains high on his dream team-up list, further highlighting his appreciation for beloved Marvel characters and the talents behind them.

*Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse* is anticipated to arrive in theaters on June 18, 2027. This animated feature, directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, with writing credits going to Dave Callaham, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller, is positioned as the concluding chapter of the current animated trilogy. The production team includes Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Jinko Gotoh. It follows the critically acclaimed *Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse* and *Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse*. The film features a notable voice cast, including Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman, Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis, and Nicolas Cage as Spider-Noir.
