Alisson Becker relishes the feeling that he is not just defending the goal when he plays at Anfield, but the thousands of people behind him.
Now a two-time Premier League winner and with seven major honours overall, the Brazilian goalkeeper has already cemented a fine legacy with Liverpool since joining the club from AS Roma in 2018.
Adored by fans and teammates alike, Alisson’s consistent quality across the past seven seasons has placed him in the ranks of the Reds’ very best stoppers.
That sentiment of appreciation is strongly reciprocated by the No.1 himself, who thrives upon the responsibility he feels when wearing the Liverpool colours.
“Every game I play is special. Every time you play at Anfield is special. Every time you listen to the anthem is special,” he says in Alisson: My Story.

“But there is a big responsibility, it’s a huge responsibility. It’s an exchange between the players and supporters; sometimes we lead them, sometimes they lead us. Sometimes we push them, sometimes they push us.
“For me, as a goalkeeper being there in front of them looks like I’m not protecting only the goal, I’m protecting all the people behind me and all the people at the stadium. I like this responsibility of defending 60,000 people.”
The man from Novo Hamburgo has built a family, as well as that legacy, during his time on Merseyside, with three children growing up here in the city.
Liverpool, to Alisson, means ‘life’ and his desire to keep creating memories with the club remains as fierce as it ever was as he now looks ahead to season eight.
“I spent a lot of time at Internacional, not so much time at Roma, but I’m spending a lot of time here as well and pretty much I started my family in Europe,” he says.
“Two years in Rome, arrived as only me and my wife; we left as me, my wife and [daughter] Helena. When we arrived at Liverpool, we started to build up our family, so it means life to me. The club has a huge impact on my life, my character.
“Football has a big impact on my personal way to live, on my character: discipline, responsibility, sense of togetherness, so many things. Here at Liverpool, all these kinds of things are stronger because of the way everybody works at the club, because of the way the supporters are connected to the club. It’s a huge community and that’s why it means life.
“It’s a fantastic place to be. You’ll never walk alone. I want to spend a lot of time here and I want to bring them joy as long as I play football. I know that titles are really important for them and I want to give them more titles, I want to give them joy, I want to give them special memories together with the team.
“I’m really happy with how things are going now because I think the future is positive for us and I really believe that we can do everything again.”
