Aldi Toy Reseller Outrage: Mum Blasts 'Worst Of The Worst' Vinted Flipper!

A recent Aldi wooden toy sale, billed as the supermarket's biggest ever with items starting from £2.99, sparked widespread frustration among parents as so-called bargain hunters immediately resold their finds online for significantly inflated prices. Melissa, known on TikTok as @casadecullen, led a fiery rant against these resellers, labeling them "the worst of the worst" for purchasing items solely to profit from them on platforms like Vinted. Her disappointment was particularly acute upon seeing toys listed for resale before shoppers had even returned home, with some sellers even leaving Aldi carrier bags visible in their listing photos.
The scale of the markups was considerable, with wooden food crates that retailed for £7.49 appearing on Vinted for £27.99. Similarly, the popular £4.99 wooden Cuthbert cake and the £4.99 wooden birthday cake were shamelessly relisted for £27.30 and £27 respectively. This practice ignited anger among parents, who branded the sellers as "greedy" and "disgusting." Melissa urged parents not to succumb to these inflated prices, advising them against lining the pockets of resellers and expressing hope that the opportunistic sellers would be left with unsold stock that would be difficult to return. While acknowledging the current economic hardships, she criticized the exploitation of such events for quick profit, suggesting that platforms like Vinted are intended for selling pre-owned items, not newly purchased stock at exorbitant markups.
Other parents echoed Melissa's sentiments online, describing their frustration and even taking action against the resellers. Some reported listings on Vinted, citing breaches of terms and conditions, specifically "Section 12." Others adopted a more direct approach, purposely submitting very low offers to annoy the sellers. The Aldi toy event, which went live on Thursday, October 9, included a wide range of products, with new additions like a Mechanic's Car, Double Air Fryer, and Spa Station, alongside returning favorites such as the Wooden Aldi Supermarket, Wooden Cuthbert Cake, and Wooden Kitchens. It's important to note that these items are Aldi Specialbuys, meaning they are available only while stocks last.
For those who missed out on Aldi's offerings or were deterred by the chaotic scenes, rival supermarket Lidl also held its Christmas Wooden Toys event. TikTok users reported a much quieter shopping experience at Lidl stores, allowing parents to secure deals without the intense competition seen at Aldi. Lidl's sale offered prices starting from £1.79, with additional savings of up to 20% for Lidl Plus members. Notable items included the Lupilu Dressing Table & Stool Set at £39.99 (or £31.99 with Lidl Plus), the Lupilu Dinosaur Set for £14.99 (or £13.49 with loyalty), and the Ice Cream Play Food Set for £4.99 (or £3.99 with Lidl Plus).
Beyond Aldi and Lidl, other major retailers are also hosting significant toy sales for Christmas shopping. Morrisons is running a half-price toy sale, offering up to 50% off popular brands such as Barbie, LEGO, Hot Wheels, Mario Kart, and Bluey, exclusively for More Card holders until October 26. Tesco's toy sale, which commenced on September 16 and continues until November 2, features up to 50% off across dolls, games, and LEGO sets, providing ample alternatives for parents seeking holiday gifts.
