Adventure Beckons! Proflight Zambia Launches Scenic Route to Africa's Wonders

Proflight Zambia has unveiled a significant expansion of its network with the introduction of a new seasonal route linking Lusaka and Livingstone in Zambia with Maun in Botswana, set to commence in May 2026 and run until October 2026. This strategic move, announced by CEO Anthony Irwin at the 55th Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA) Annual General Assembly in Lusaka, underscores the airline's commitment to bolstering regional air connectivity and supporting the burgeoning tourism sector across Southern Africa.
The new service will operate three times per week, directly connecting Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka and Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport (LVI) in Livingstone to Maun Airport (MUB). This route is poised to transform multi-destination travel by seamlessly bridging two of Africa’s most iconic natural wonders: Victoria Falls, accessible via Livingstone, and the Okavango Delta, with Maun serving as its primary gateway. By facilitating direct access between these celebrated destinations, Proflight Zambia aims to enhance convenience for international and regional visitors, while also creating new opportunities for the travel trade throughout the region.
The seasonal service is anticipated to attract a diverse array of travelers, including leisure tourists, dedicated safari enthusiasts, and business stakeholders, all keen to explore Southern Africa's unparalleled wildlife and adventure offerings. Proflight Zambia's decision to launch this route aligns with a growing demand for flexible, multi-country itineraries. The airline, already a key player in regional connections, further solidifies its position as a leading facilitator of cross-border tourism and trade. Ongoing investments in its fleet and interline agreements with major international carriers continue to reinforce Lusaka's role as a pivotal hub for both inbound and outbound travel.
For Zambia, the new route significantly elevates Lusaka's status as a gateway to Southern Africa, further supporting the country's ambition to become a regional aviation powerhouse as Kenneth Kaunda International Airport attracts more airlines and expands its facilities. Livingstone is also set to benefit from increased visitor traffic, leveraging its proximity to Victoria Falls as a natural starting point for explorations of the Zambezi River and beyond. On the Botswana side, Maun's role as the principal entry point to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Okavango Delta will be amplified, making it considerably easier for travelers to combine the dramatic experience of Victoria Falls with the serene beauty of the Delta in a single, streamlined journey.
The announcement has been met with widespread enthusiasm across the regional tourism industry, including tourism boards, hospitality operators, and tour planners. The route is expected to stimulate bookings for lodges, safari camps, and adventure activities, while simultaneously boosting local economies through job creation and expanded business opportunities. For African travel professionals, this development presents fresh avenues for crafting innovative itineraries that highlight the rich natural and cultural heritage of Southern Africa.
Proflight Zambia's initiative also responds to evolving travel trends, as more travelers seek authentic, experience-driven journeys where efficient movement between multiple destinations is a key differentiator. The airline’s flexible schedule and competitive pricing are designed to cater to both high-end and value-conscious travelers, ensuring broad market appeal. Beyond tourism, the new route is expected to strengthen trade ties between Zambia and Botswana, fostering greater economic integration within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region through enhanced movement of goods, services, and people.
Looking ahead, the success of this seasonal service could pave the way for further network expansion, building on Proflight Zambia's demonstrated agility in adapting to market demands, as seen with previous routes like Windhoek. The airline’s deep understanding of the African travel landscape positions it advantageously to capitalize on future opportunities. This latest initiative serves as a powerful testament to Africa's potential as a world-class tourism destination, redefining possibilities for both travelers and industry professionals by seamlessly connecting iconic sites. Proflight Zambia invites the world to explore the magic of Southern Africa, where thundering waterfalls meet tranquil wetlands, promising adventure, discovery, and connection in a new era of regional travel led by African industry players.
