AAC Rejects Oyo Opposition Coalition, Labels ADC-Led Alliance 'Desperate Power Grab' | Sahara Reporters
The party insisted that only a grassroots-driven “alliance of the oppressed” can deliver genuine change.
The Oyo State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has dismissed the newly formed opposition coalition under the umbrella of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a “gathering of failed and desperate oppressors.”
The party insisted that only a grassroots-driven “alliance of the oppressed” can deliver genuine change.
In a statement signed by the AAC’s Oyo State Chairman, Kayode Babayomi, the party urged citizens not to be swayed by the political realignment among opposition figures, many of whom were recently part of past administrations and failed alliances.
“The alliance of the oppressed is what we need in Oyo State, not when failures move from one party to another to suit their desperation,” Babayomi said.
“The African Action Congress (AAC) urges the people of Oyo State not to panic, but to remain resolute by standing with the AAC.”
Babayomi specifically criticised the use of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the platform for the opposition regrouping, describing the party as “dead” and unfit for leadership renewal.
“The noise of coalitions should be discarded. They are just empty vessels, aggrieved and desperately seeking power again.
“Their current vehicle is the dead party called ADC, as we predicted months ago,” he stated.
Reaffirming its stance, the AAC called on citizens of Oyo State to reject these “power seekers” and rally behind what it describes as the only genuine alternative party rooted in the struggles of the people.
“In their attempt to rebrand and present themselves as a better alternative to the people of Oyo State, we want you to know they are the same old, corrupt individuals who led us into the mess we are in today,” he said.
“AAC remains the only true alternative to our political and economic challenges in Oyo State and Nigeria at large,” Babayomi declared.
“Our party is not for ‘special purposes.’ We are for the people and with the people.”
The statement urged residents who are “tired and desire a real, clear solution” to join the AAC en masse, promising that the party is committed to organising with the oppressed to “take back our state from the Makinde-led PDP government.”
Babayomi said, “We urge the people of Oyo State to continue joining our party in mass, so that together we can take back our state from the Makinde-led PDP government.
“The door is open to every genuine resident of Oyo State who is tired and desires a real, clear solution to the many problems created by these wrongdoers.”
Babayomi added, “We in the AAC are standing firmly with the oppressed Nigerians. We are the way, the truth, and the life. We will give life back to the Nigerian people.”
The party vowed to intensify grassroots mobilisation across local governments in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We call on the good people of Oyo State to join us, organise with us, and together we shall take back our country.”
