Wizkid Dominates Nigerian Airwaves, Crowned Most-Streamed Artist on Spotify!
Spotify's 2025 Wrapped provides an insightful annual recap of Nigeria's dynamic audio consumption habits, showcasing a thriving music scene and a significant embrace of local content. With Nigerians collectively spending over 1.3 billion hours on the platform, the report highlights key trends, including the emergence of a fresh generation of artists reshaping the soundscape and the growing popularity of podcasts.
Dominating the charts as the most-streamed song in Nigeria was Davido's 'With You (feat. Omah Lay)'. Below this chart-topper, young, fast-rising artists made a remarkable impact: Fido secured the second spot with the viral anthem 'Joy is Coming,' followed by Kunmie's emotional debut 'Arike' at No. 3, and Faceless's 'Venus' at No. 4. Spotify RADAR artist FOLA also made a strong showing, landing at No. 6 with 'Lost.' Their collective presence underscores how new voices are actively recalibrating the vibe and driving the future of Nigerian music.
In the album category, Wizkid's 'Morayo' emerged as Nigeria's most-streamed album. The top five was rounded out by Davido's '5ive,' BNXN's 'Captain,' Burna Boy's 'No Sign of Weakness,' and FOLA's 'Catharsis.' Notably, Asake demonstrated impressive catalogue strength, placing three albums—'Work of Art,' 'Lungu Boy,' and 'Mr Money With The Vibe'—within the top 10, signifying his deep resonance with daily listening habits across the country.
Wizkid also topped the list of most-streamed artistes in Nigeria for 2025, followed by Seyi Vibez, Asake, Burna Boy, and Odumodublvck. This diverse lineup illustrates the broad spectrum of today's Nigerian sound, ranging from street-driven hits to globally recognized performances. When looking at female artistes, Ayra Starr retained her position as Nigeria's most-streamed woman. She was joined in the Top 10 by Tems, the fast-rising street-hop/Amapiano fusion act Smur Lee (whose ascent was propelled by high-profile collaborations), Afrobeats veteran Tiwa Savage, and gospel favourite Sunmisola, whose popularity highlights Nigeria's robust appetite for gospel music coexisting seamlessly with mainstream Afrobeats.
Beyond individual and genre-specific successes, Spotify reported a significant 82% year-on-year rise in local music consumption, indicating a growing loyalty to homegrown sounds within Nigeria. Concurrently, Afrobeats listening increased by 22% globally, further cementing the genre's expanding international influence and showcasing its power on the world stage.
Nigerians are also increasingly embracing podcasts, with Spotify reporting a 97% year-on-year rise in hours spent listening to them, reflecting a surge in digital audio engagement beyond music. Podcast creation simultaneously grew by 48%, suggesting a burgeoning scene of local content producers. Interestingly, data from 2025 revealed a strong spiritual tilt in listeners' preferences, with many top-streamed podcasts centered on faith and personal reflection. This trend indicates that Nigerians are utilizing digital audio for guidance, inspiration, and fostering a sense of community in their daily routines.
Phiona Okumu, Spotify's Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, perfectly summarized the findings, stating, 'Nigeria's 2025 Wrapped paints a picture of a music scene that is absolutely thriving. It's incredible to see how fast Nigerians embrace fresh voices right alongside the legends.' As Wrapped 2025 rolls out, listeners can delve into their personalized audio journeys, discovering how their choices, from breakout anthems to spiritual podcasts, have collectively defined Nigeria's audio landscape this year.
