Trump Retaliates with Hormuz Blockade as Diplomatic Crisis Deepens Between US-Iran Nuclear Talks

High-level diplomatic negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan, ended without a breakthrough after a 21-hour session that stretched from Saturday into Sunday morning.
The talks failed to produce an agreement to ease tensions, with disagreements centered on Iran’s nuclear programme and deep-rooted mistrust between both sides.
The United States presented what it described as a final proposal aimed at resolving the dispute, but Iranian negotiators declined the terms, leaving both parties unable to reach common ground.
A major sticking point remained Iran’s nuclear ambitions, as discussions over long-term commitments, uranium enrichment limits, verification mechanisms, sanctions relief, and broader regional security arrangements failed to yield consensus.
American officials sought assurances that Iran would not pursue nuclear weapons in the long term, while Iranian representatives viewed some of the conditions as excessive and lacking confidence. Despite extensive negotiations, neither side made enough of a shift to secure an agreement.
The Strait of Hormuz also emerged as a significant area of disagreement. The strategic waterway, which handles a substantial share of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, became a focal point of tensions over navigation rights and security arrangements.
Conflicting positions over control, passage conditions, and maritime security added to the deadlock.
Although the meeting ended without resolution, both sides signaled that diplomatic engagement could continue, but no date has been set for another round of talks.
