More than 9,000 pounds of frozen meatballs have been recalled from Aldi stores nationwide due to the potential presence of metal shards.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on Sunday, assigning it the highest risk level, Class I, indicating a reasonable probability that consumption could lead to serious adverse health consequences or death.
While a customer complaint first alerted authorities to the metal fragments, no injuries have been reported to date.
The recall specifically targets approximately 9,462 pounds of frozen meatballs produced by Rosina Food Products, Inc. Consumers can identify the affected product by the name 'Bremer Family Size Italian Style Meatballs' in 32-ounce packages, containing about 64 meatballs.
These packages carry a best-by date of '10/30/26' and include timestamps between '17:08' and '18:20'. The establishment number associated with the recalled product is 'EST. 4286B'.
Aldi shoppers are strongly advised to check their freezers for these recalled meatballs. If found, the products should not be consumed.
Instead, consumers should either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
FSIS also recommends that anyone concerned about a potential injury after consuming the recalled meatballs should contact a healthcare provider immediately.
Also, consumers can report any problems related to this or other food products through the agency's Electronic Consumer Complaint Monitoring System.
