Uganda's Rap Scene Ignites: Bond 7 Powers 2025 UG Hip Hop Awards!
Kampala, Uganda recently played host to the 8th edition of the UG Hip Hop Awards, an evening dedicated to celebrating the vibrant tapestry of Uganda's rap industry. The event, held at the IUEA Auditorium, resonated with a powerful theme: true craft demands passion, precision, and an unwavering respect for its foundation. It was a night where old-school pioneers and new-wave visionaries converged, united by their shared love for the sound, style, and soul of Ugandan hip hop.
Bond 7, as a key partner, played a significant role in fostering the night's celebratory and unifying atmosphere. Upon arrival, attendees, including various squads and stars, were welcomed with a complimentary 200ml Bond 7, setting a convivial tone for the evening. Adjacent to the red-carpet photography, a cocktail bar artfully crafted simple, bold serves using Bond 7 as a base. This innovative approach mirrored the core essence of the night's celebration: how individual talent and collective support beautifully blend within the dynamic hip hop scene.
Hillary Baguma, speaking on behalf of Bond 7, eloquently articulated the brand's pride in supporting the genre. "Tonight is about celebrating the bonds this genre creates, the stories it tells, and the community it strengthens. As Bond 7, we are proud to support and honour all the trailblazers and newcomers here," Baguma stated, emphasizing the brand's commitment to the industry's growth and recognition. The awards ceremony itself was a homage to diverse sounds and career paths from across the nation.
Key highlights of the awards included a moving moment when Geoffrey Ekongot received a well-deserved standing ovation for his Lifetime Achievement. The prestigious Song of the Year award went to Tai Dai, Axon, and Soundlykbb for their track "N**** in Fashion." Recho Rey was crowned Female Artiste of the Year, while Pryce Teeba earned the title of Male Artiste of the Year, recognizing their significant contributions to the scene.
The evening culminated in a powerful performance by industry legend, Babaluku. Reflecting on the art form's journey, Babaluku underscored the profound significance of celebrating hip hop within a university setting, especially with the support of partners like Bond 7. He passionately declared, "We are bonded here by rap. To see it celebrated in a place of learning with support from partners like Bond 7, means we get to see it persist, grow, and fearlessly evolve." Following a night that saluted the dedication and incredible talent within Ugandan Hip Hop, Bond 7 reaffirmed its commitment, looking forward to continuing to celebrate the bonds that bring communities together and the bold spirit that sets them apart.
