Two Men to Hang: Kano Court Sentences Duo to Death for Gruesome Murder

A High Court in Kano has delivered a judgment of death by hanging for two men, Aliyu Hussaini and Amir Zakariyya, following their conviction for the murder of newly married Yazid Haruna during a robbery attack. The convicts, residents of Sheka Sabuwar Abuja Quarters and Unguwar Malam Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area, were found guilty of conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide.

The court heard that the incident occurred in the early hours of June 11, 2025, at approximately 2:47 am, in Sheka Sabuwar Abuja Quarters, Kano. According to the prosecution, led by Barrister Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, Aliyu Hussaini and Amir Zakariyya conspired and armed themselves with long knives and machetes before launching their attack on the victim. During the assault, they robbed Haruna of two mobile phones and N19,500, subsequently stabbing him multiple times in the stomach, chest, and head, which tragically led to his death.

The prosecution presented a compelling case, supported by testimony from three witnesses and critical medical reports. Despite the defendants denying the charges, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, presiding over the case, meticulously reviewed the evidence. The defense lawyer, Barrister Haruna Saleh-Zakariyya, had presented the defendants to testify in their own defense and pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.

In her judgment, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu firmly stated that the prosecution had proved its case beyond any reasonable doubt. She described the actions of the defendants as
