Tragic Loss: Hitmaker Casswell P Dies Young After Lung Battle
The South African music industry is in mourning following the death of promising hitmaker Casswell P, whose passing was confirmed by his family on Saturday. Tributes have flooded in from friends, colleagues, and the wider music community, remembering an artist described as humble, kind, creative, and deeply dedicated to his craft.
Born in Lekwareng village in Limpopo, Casswell P began his musical journey at the young age of 16. His talent and potential quickly led to him being signed by Master KG's Wanitwa Mos Entertainment, where he became renowned for his distinctive creativity and warmth. Dineo Dhlamini, the manager of Wanitwa Mos Entertainment, expressed profound sadness, stating, "We will sorely miss his presence, creativity, and warmth in the industry."
Throughout his impactful career, Casswell P collaborated with several prominent artists, including Nkosazana Daughter, Makhadzi, and Donald. A significant highlight of his achievements was his 2024 single "Can't Get," featuring Nobuhle, which earned a nomination for Best Dance Song at the prestigious Metro FM Awards. This recognition further solidified his reputation as a vital contributor to the country's vibrant music scene.
Friends conveyed their shock and sorrow over his sudden passing. Tebogo Mokitimi, a close friend, provided insights into Casswell P's illness: "He hardly ever said he was feeling sick. He suddenly had breathing issues, and doctors found lung problems. We are still waiting for a full autopsy." Mokitimi further characterized Casswell P as humble, quiet, and intensely focused on his musical passion.
The outpouring of grief was widely evident across social media platforms. Evelyn April, a friend, shared a heartfelt message: "I've lost someone who wasn't just a friend; he was my brother, my safe space, my person. It hurts so much... Rest in peace, my angel." Another colleague, Julia Hunter, also expressed her deep sorrow: "No, please. I'm not okay. May you rest peacefully." His family, in their statement, conveyed their unexpected grief, saying, "We did not expect this to happen. We will share all the details in due time," underscoring the sudden and profound nature of their loss to the music community and his loved ones.
