Title Fights Bonanza! Sheeraz & Catterall Join Usyk-Verhoeven Main Event

A major boxing event is scheduled to take place on May 23 at the historic Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, featuring an array of high-stakes matchups. The full undercard for the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Rico Verhoeven main event was officially announced by Ring Magazine, who will promote the event.

Headlining the card, Oleksandr Usyk will defend his WBC heavyweight title against Rico Verhoeven in a highly anticipated clash set against the backdrop of the ancient Pyramids. This monumental event brings together some of the most prominent names in professional boxing for a night of championship action.

Among the featured bouts, Hamzah Sheeraz is set to challenge Alem Begic for the WBO super middleweight title. Sheeraz, with a professional record of 22-0-1 and 18 knockouts, has solidified his position for this world title shot after a dominant Round 5 knockout victory over Edgar Berlanga last July. Prior to moving up a weight class, the Brit had previously fought for the middleweight title in February 2025, where he drew with the then-defending champion Carlos Adames in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, highlighting his resilience and championship aspirations.

Also on the undercard, Jack Catterall (32-2, 14 KOs) will vie for the WBA "regular" welterweight title against Shakhram Giyasov. Catterall enters this fight following a stylish knockout win over Ekow Essuman in November, a performance he delivered on the Conor Benn vs. Chris Eubank Jr. undercard. It is noted that Rolly Romero currently holds the full WBA championship at 147 pounds.

The card further includes a compelling heavyweight clash between Cuban pugilist Frank Sanchez and American prospect Richard Torrez Jr. Torrez Jr., a 26-year-old talent with an undefeated record of 14-0 (12 KOs), earned a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics and is widely regarded as one of America's most promising young fighters. However, he faces a significant step up in competition against Sanchez, who boasts a record of 25-1 (18 KOs). Sanchez's sole professional defeat came in May 2024 against German Agit Kabayel, the current WBC interim titleholder, underscoring the formidable challenge he presents to the rising American prospect.
