Tinubu's 2027 Vision Unveiled: APC Endorses Presidential Candidate After Decisive Primary Victory

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu secured an overwhelming victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election, setting the stage for his candidacy in the 2027 general elections. The comprehensive results from across the nation demonstrated massive support for Tinubu from members of the ruling party. In Gombe State, President Tinubu polled an impressive 450,517 votes in the primary election.
The Gombe State results were announced by Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, the Coordinator of the exercise, at the APC Square. He confirmed that the figures were compiled from collation officers across the state's 11 local government areas. Governor Yahaya lauded the peaceful conduct of the primary election, which adhered strictly to party guidelines, and noted that the results would be forwarded to Abuja for final collation and official declaration by the APC national leadership. A detailed breakdown of the Gombe State votes revealed Tinubu secured 5,873 votes in Akko LGA, 23,307 in Balanga, 23,675 in Billiri, 24,964 in Dukku, and 22,761 in Funakaye. Gombe LGA recorded the highest tally for Tinubu with 112,414 votes. Other results included 22,998 in Kaltungo, 25,305 in Kwami, 21,388 in Nafada, 12,765 in Shongom, and 75,067 in Yamaltu/Deba. Governor Yahaya highlighted that out of 550,516 registered voters in the state, Tinubu achieved an overwhelming victory in the direct primary.
Following his impressive nationwide victory, President Tinubu is scheduled to receive the Certificate of Return and the ruling party’s flag as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. This ceremony will take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, after a thorough nationwide collation of the primary election results. Dignitaries expected to attend the event include APC governors, members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), the National Working Committee (NWC), members of the National Assembly, and other party stalwarts. This overwhelming support was largely anticipated, especially after his endorsement by the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) in May 2025, prior to the presidential primary elections.
Speaking with journalists after participating in the APC presidential primary at Ikoyi-Obalende Ward L2 in Lagos, President Tinubu expressed his excitement, stating that the massive support he received from party members served as a challenge for him to redouble his efforts for the country. He characterized the conduct of the 2027 APC presidential primary elections nationwide as a robust demonstration of internal democracy within the ruling party, asserting that the exercise has significantly deepened the democratic process.
President Tinubu commended party members for their orderly conduct, enthusiasm, and steadfast commitment to democratic values, emphasizing that the primaries exemplified grassroots politics where every party member has the right to participate. He conveyed his satisfaction with how governors managed the process in their respective states, from ward and local government congresses to delegate accreditation, validation, membership registration, and the certification of the electoral process. The President reaffirmed APC's dedication to transparent and inclusive democratic processes, empowering party members at the grassroots to freely choose their leaders and representatives, which he considers fundamental for sustainable democratic development. He also lauded electoral officials, party leaders, and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and credible exercise, urging Nigerians to continue supporting democratic institutions and national unity, while reiterating his administration's commitment to democratic ideals, good governance, and policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians and strengthening political stability.
Results from other states further underscored President Tinubu's landslide victory against his lone challenger, Mr. Stanley Osifo, who consistently garnered minimal or zero votes across most states. In Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Coordinator, announced Tinubu scored 208,082 votes, with Osifo receiving zero. Sokoto State's Coordinator, Governor Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, declared Tinubu with 301,000 votes and Osifo with zero. Abia State saw Tinubu polling 161,005 votes against Osifo’s 1,002, as announced by Hon. Benjamin Kalu. In Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq reported Tinubu with 310,990 votes and Osifo with zero. Imo State recorded 582,823 votes for Tinubu and 103 for Osifo, with Governor Hope Uzodimma declaring the results. Delta State, under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, saw Tinubu secure 407,646 votes to Osifo's zero. Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, announced Tinubu polled 100,880 votes to Osifo's zero in Osun State.
Further results indicated that in Kogi State, Governor Usman Ododo, the Returning Officer, stated Tinubu polled 197,370 votes out of 224,166 registered voters. In Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri announced Tinubu's score of 277,192 votes across the 105 wards. Zamfara State, under Governor Dauda Lawal, saw Tinubu secure 321,579 votes, while Osifo received 42. Additionally, members of the APC across Kaduna State unanimously endorsed President Tinubu as the party’s preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. Governor Uba Sani described this statewide affirmation across all 255 political wards as a powerful demonstration of unity, loyalty, and confidence in both the APC and President Tinubu's leadership.
On his X page, President Tinubu reiterated the importance of strong democratic ideals, stating that democracy is not sustained by 'noise, speculation, or borrowed platforms.' He affirmed that democracy thrives through active citizen participation, the unwavering belief of party members, enduring institutions, robust grassroots engagement, and a political family deeply rooted in the people. He noted that the APC, through entrenched internal democracy and diligent effort, remains focused, organized, and deeply grounded nationwide, contrasting its approach by gathering 'around structure, service, and the work of nation-building' rather than grievances. The President concluded by expressing the party's commitment to renewing hope, strengthening democracy, and building a stronger Nigeria for all citizens.
