Golf legend Tiger Woods has had his driver’s license suspended for five years following a plea deal with prosecutors in Martin County, Florida. This agreement allowed Woods to avoid jail time, concluding a driving under the influence (DUI) case that originated in March 2026.
Woods appeared before the Martin County Courthouse, where he altered his plea to no contest on a reduced charge of reckless driving, marking his second such offense. The 50-year-old golfer was also charged with refusal to submit to a lawful test. Initially, he had pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence with property damage.
As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dropped the more serious DUI charge. Woods was adjudicated guilty on the reckless driving count and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine. Additionally, he received a $500 fine for the refusal charge. He was also found guilty of careless driving, which was a separate moving violation. Two five-year license suspensions, one tied to the reckless driving charge and another to the careless driving citation, will run concurrently.
Judge Darren Steele issued a stern warning to Woods, emphasizing that any instance of driving would result in immediate incarceration. "If you were to drive for any reason at all, you would go immediately back to jail," Steele stated. "There are no exceptions. It is for the safety of the public."
