Thunder's SGA Cleared for Return, Playoff Hopes Surge!

Reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been officially cleared to return to action, providing a significant boost to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Gilgeous-Alexander had been sidelined for the past nine games due to an abdominal strain, an injury he sustained during a February 3 victory against the Orlando Magic. He is notably absent from the official injury report and is expected to be available for Friday's crucial home game against the Denver Nuggets.
During Gilgeous-Alexander's absence, the Oklahoma City Thunder posted a respectable 5-4 record. However, this period saw their lead atop the competitive Western Conference standings diminish to just two games. This reduction in their lead is largely attributed to the surging San Antonio Spurs, who have recorded an impressive 10 consecutive wins and hold the season tiebreaker over the Thunder, adding further pressure.
While Gilgeous-Alexander's return is a welcome development, the Thunder continues to grapple with other significant injuries. All-NBA wing Jalen Williams remains out, having aggravated a right hamstring strain after briefly returning for two games before the All-Star break. Williams is currently scheduled for a reevaluation in approximately one week. Additionally, key reserve guard Ajay Mitchell continues to be unavailable. Mitchell has been out since January 21, initially due to an abdominal strain, and then suffered a further setback by spraining his ankle during a workout, delaying his anticipated post-All-Star break return.
Gilgeous-Alexander's impact on the court has been undeniable this season, as evidenced by his stellar statistics. He is averaging an impressive 31.8 points, 6.4 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game. His exceptional performance has positioned him as the clear MVP favorite once again, with DraftKings Sportsbook assigning him -125 odds to secure the prestigious award.
