The Most Glamorous Muppet, After 49 Years, Gets Her Own Feature Film!

Miss Piggy, the iconic porcine diva from The Muppets ensemble, is set to headline her own feature film, marking a major return to the big screen for the beloved character. The project is being produced by Academy Award-winning actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone, with a script penned by Broadway sensation Cole Escola.
Jennifer Lawrence announced the exciting news during an appearance on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers' Las Culturistas podcast. She candidly shared, “I don't know if I can announce this, but I'm just going to. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it.” When asked whether she and Stone would also appear in the film, Lawrence, who was promoting her new movie Die My Love, confirmed their involvement, stating simply, “We have to.” No further details about the as-yet-unannounced project were revealed.
Cole Escola, who is crafting the screenplay, recently garnered critical acclaim and won a Tony Award for their performance as Mary Todd Lincoln in the Broadway play Oh, Mary!, which Escola also wrote. Their work on this satirical and campy take on the Lincoln Presidency has positioned them as a compelling voice in entertainment. Escola has also been added to the cast of Netflix’s One Piece for its third season.
Miss Piggy, first introduced in a Herb Alpert TV special, began as a minor character within The Muppets. However, as The Muppet Show progressed, she quickly evolved into the fashion-forward, French-speaking, karate-chopping diva known and adored (and occasionally feared) by her fellow Muppets. Her defining trait is her passionate, often possessive love for Kermit the Frog, a relationship that has been central throughout The Muppets’ history, featuring frequent on-and-off periods. Piggy has played major roles in all of The Muppets’ cinematic ventures, including an Esther Williams-esque aqua-dance scene in The Great Muppet Caper, a (sort of) marriage to Kermit in The Muppets Take Manhattan, and her portrayal of Emily Cratchit in The Muppet Christmas Carol. In 2011’s The Muppets, she relocated to France to become an editor for Vogue magazine. Originally voiced and performed by Frank Oz, Miss Piggy has been performed by Eric Jacobson since 2002.
Beyond Miss Piggy’s solo film, other Muppet projects are in development. The Muppet Show itself is slated for a one-off special hosted by pop star Sabrina Carpenter. The special will air on Disney+ in 2026 to commemorate The Muppet Show’s 50th anniversary and could potentially launch an ongoing revival of the beloved series.
