Term-Time Holiday Backfires: Mum Shocked by School's Strict Absence Stance

A mother's attempt to take her five-year-old son out of school for a term-time holiday to Spain backfired spectacularly when her son inadvertently revealed their plans to school staff. Dione had hoped to get away with the unauthorized absence but was ultimately 'grassed up' by her own child, leading to a viral TikTok post detailing the amusing mishap.
Dione initially received a message from the school inquiring about Isaac's absence, stating, "Please could you contact the academy to advise why Isaac is absent today? Attendance is more important than ever, every day matters." In response, Dione fabricated a story, claiming Isaac had spots and a rash, suggesting it might be chickenpox and that he was visiting a chemist.
However, the school's subsequent reply exposed the lie. "Isaac told staff that he was going to Tenerife on a Jet2 aeroplane," the school's message read, leaving Dione stunned. Her son's innocent revelation of their holiday plans to the Immersive Coral Kingdom in Puerto de la Cruz, Spain, completely undermined her cover story.

Dione shared the exchange on TikTok, humorously captioning a picture of herself and her son with "There's no bigger grass than a toddler." She later posted a delighted picture of Isaac at the Coral Kingdom, acknowledging, "My five-year-old giving me instant karma for lying." Anticipating negative comments, she disabled the comments section on her post.
This incident wasn't Dione's first rodeo, as another TikTok from 2024 showed her son absent from school and singing at a karaoke bar, indicating a pattern of term-time holiday absences. The current story resonated with many, highlighting the unpredictable honesty of young children.
