Taylor Swift's 'The Life Of A Showgirl' Dominates ARIA Charts, Unstoppable Reign Continues

Taylor Swift continues to command the ARIA Charts, solidifying her presence with "The Life Of A Showgirl" (via Republic/Universal) holding the No. 1 spot on the ARIA Albums Chart for a second consecutive week. This achievement contributes to her impressive career total of 70 weeks atop the national albums survey, a journey that began in 2010 with her album "Speak Now." On the singles front, Swift also maintains her stronghold, with "The Fate Of Ophelia" securing the top position on the national singles chart for a second week, following her unprecedented feat of claiming the entire top 12 last week.
The latest ARIA Albums Chart, published on Friday, October 17, also features several notable new releases from Australian artists. Queensland singer-songwriter Pete Murray makes a significant return with his independently-released seventh full-length studio album, "Longing" (CMI), debuting at No. 5. This marks his first album in eight years, building on a successful career that includes three previous No. 1 albums: "Feeler" (2003), "See The Sun" (2005), and "Summer At Eureka" (2008).
Further showcasing local talent, Gold Coast artist Lyric achieves a debut top 10 with her second EP, "The Art Of Falling First" (G.Y.R.O.), entering the chart at No. 9. This release is one of eight homegrown titles featured on the current survey. Award-winning Indigenous rapper, singer, and dancer Baker Boy (Danzal Baker), a recipient of six ARIA Awards and the Young Australian of the Year in 2019, also makes a strong impact with his sophomore album, "DJANDJAY," debuting at No. 13. His debut album, "Gela," released in 2021, previously reached No. 3.
Other Australian artists making their mark on the albums chart include former Noiseworks and INXS frontman Jon Stevens, whose eleventh solo album, "Shimmer" (Island/Universal), debuts at No. 30. Stevens previously led Noiseworks to four top 10 albums, including the 1991 No. 1 "Love Versus Money." Additionally, Sheppard founding member Amy Sheppard releases her debut full-length album, "Born To Be Country" (EOS/MGM), charting at No. 45. The Brisbane artist previously achieved a No. 16 peak with her 2022 EP "Nothing But Wild" and contributed to four top 10 albums with Sheppard, including 2018's chart-topping "Watching The Sky."
On the ARIA Singles Chart, the highest new entry comes from an international collaboration: BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and former One Direction singer Zayn, whose track “Eyes Closed” (Warner) opens at No. 47. Notably, no Australian titles are present within the top 50 of the singles survey this week.
