Taylor Swift's 'Showgirl' Dominance Continues: 12 Weeks at Billboard #1!

Taylor Swift's album, "The Life of a Showgirl," has achieved a remarkable milestone, securing its 12th nonconsecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, dated January 10, 2026. This impressive run comes from earning 81,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the week ending January 1. This accomplishment marks Swift's second-longest reign at the top of the chart, surpassing the 11-week streaks of her previous albums "1989" (2014-15) and "Fearless" (2008-09). The only album in Swift's extensive discography of 15 No. 1 albums – the most for any soloist – to have spent more weeks atop the list is "The Tortured Poets Department," which logged an astounding 17 weeks at No. 1 in 2024.
In the broader context of chart performance, "The Life of a Showgirl" now stands alongside significant chart-toppers. Morgan Wallen’s "I’m the Problem" previously achieved 12 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 in 2025, while SZA’s "SOS" set a higher bar, logging its 13th nonconsecutive week at No. 1 on the May 3, 2025-dated list. Delving into the unit breakdown for "The Life of a Showgirl" in its latest charting week, Streaming Equivalent Album (SEA) units constituted 47,000 (a 10% increase, equating to 61.58 million on-demand official streams, propelling it 16-2 on the Top Streaming Albums chart). Album sales contributed 33,000 units (a 66% decrease), securing a seventh nonconsecutive week at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart, and Track Equivalent Album (TEA) units accounted for 1,000 (a 25% increase).
The Billboard 200 chart serves as the definitive ranking of the most popular albums in the U.S., determined by multi-metric consumption. This consumption is meticulously measured in equivalent album units, a metric compiled by Luminate. Each equivalent album unit is precisely defined as one album sale, or the sale of 10 individual tracks from an album (Track Equivalent Albums, TEA), or 3,750 ad-supported on-demand official audio and video streams, or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album (Streaming Equivalent Albums, SEA). The complete Jan. 10, 2026-dated chart will be made public on Billboard’s official website on January 6.
The latest Billboard 200 chart saw a significant shake-up in its top 10, primarily due to the seasonal exodus of most holiday-themed titles. This shift reflects the tracking week spanning December 26 through January 1. Consequently, many non-holiday albums experienced a surge up the list, even if their overall activity saw slight declines. Among these, Morgan Wallen’s "I’m the Problem" climbed from No. 6 to No. 2 with 69,000 equivalent album units (down 8%). The "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack also made a notable jump, rising from No. 10 to No. 3 with 51,000 units (down 18%). Olivia Dean’s "The Art of Loving" reached a new peak, vaulting from No. 14 to No. 4 with 50,000 units (down less than 1%), surpassing its previous No. 5 high in November. Additionally, Sabrina Carpenter’s chart-topping "Man’s Best Friend" rallied from No. 19 to No. 5 with 40,000 units (down 5%).
Further enriching the top 10, Peso Pluma and Tito Double P’s collaborative album, "DINASTÍA," made its debut at No. 6 on the Billboard 200. This marks Peso Pluma’s third album to reach the top 10 and Tito Double P’s first. The album launched with 33,000 equivalent album units, predominantly comprising SEA units, which translated to 45.29 million on-demand official streams and secured a No. 5 debut on the Top Streaming Albums chart. The album was notably preceded by its single “Intro,” which peaked at No. 8 on the Hot Latin Songs chart on December 6. The remaining positions in the top 10 were filled by four former No. 1 albums: SZA’s "SOS" moved from No. 24 to No. 7 (32,000 units, down 11%), Tate McRae’s "So Close To What" jumped from No. 27 to No. 8 (nearly 32,000 units, up 2%), Morgan Wallen’s "One Thing at a Time" drove from No. 36 to No. 9 (27,000 units, up 1%), and Sabrina Carpenter’s "Short n’ Sweet" zoomed from No. 30 to No. 10 (nearly 27,000 units, down 8%).
