Super Eagles Held 2–2 by Poland in Thrilling Friendly, Onuachu Strikes Late Before Stoppage-Time Equaliser

Nigeria national football team played out an entertaining 2–2 draw against Poland national football team at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw, in a friendly that served as preparation for upcoming international competitions.

The match formed part of Nigeria’s build-up momentum following recent positive results under head coach Eric Chelle, who has been overseeing an extended unbeaten run in competitive regulation time.

Despite missing key players such as Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, the Super Eagles fielded a competitive squad featuring returning regulars and several new opportunities for fringe players.

Nigeria opened the scoring through Terem Moffi after sustained attacking pressure, before Poland equalised just before halftime following a deflected effort from Nicola Zalewski’s shot. The game remained tightly contested in the second half, with both sides creating chances and goalkeepers making decisive saves, particularly Maduka Okoye, who produced several key stops to keep Nigeria in the match.

VAR also played a significant role, overturning decisions that led to Nigeria’s attacking opportunities and maintaining the competitive balance of the encounter. The Super Eagles regained the lead in the 77th minute when Paul Onuachu converted a penalty after a handball review, continuing his strong record of scoring decisive goals for Nigeria.

However, the advantage was short-lived as Poland struck a dramatic long-range equaliser in stoppage time through Przemysław Wiśniewski, sealing a 2–2 result. Despite the late disappointment, Nigeria’s performance highlighted attacking cohesion, squad depth, and encouraging individual displays as the team continues preparations for upcoming international fixtures.
