Wike Says He Could Become Target if Tinubu Loses 2027 Election

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he expects to face political repercussions if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election to either former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or Labour Party candidate Peter Obi.

Speaking during a media interaction in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Wike said his outspoken support for Tinubu’s re-election has placed him among the politicians most likely to face consequences should the opposition take power. He acknowledged the risks of his position but maintained that he has no regrets about backing the President.

Wike said he was fully aware that his political alignment could make him a target under a different administration, declaring that he expected those opposed to Tinubu to “come for” him if the President is defeated.

Despite the criticism and name-calling he has faced over his support for Tinubu, the minister said such attacks have not weakened his resolve. He maintained that his priority remains securing Tinubu’s re-election and that he is prepared to accept whatever political consequences may follow.

The FCT minister said his commitment to Tinubu’s 2027 campaign has become a central focus of his political activities, emphasizing that he thinks about the President’s re-election in virtually everything he does.

Wike’s position places him firmly within the camp of political figures supporting Tinubu despite the growing realignment ahead of the 2027 election, while Atiku and Obi are positioning themselves as major challengers. For Wike, however, the possibility of political fallout has not altered his decision to remain openly committed to the President’s bid for a second term.
